So I stop at the drugstore tonight to buy Mother's Day cards. I walk down the whole aisle and see a few folks there so I figure I will go get a protein bar and come back.

Aout 60 seconds later I come back and at the feet of three lasies I see 2 folded 20 dollar bills. I bend down pick them up, and say "excuse me I think you dropped these." They tell me no it isnt theirs.

Whoever dropped them is obviously still in the store. I dont feel right taking them or dropping them. So I go to the cashier tell her and give them to her and she says she will hold them for an hour and if nobody claims them I can come back.

Did I do the right thing? Do I go back?

Or do we figure the cashier (who by the way was a sweet grandmother type) will simply pocket for herself?

If you want it go back, you played the situation well.

Honestly if I did go back I'd probably give one of the bills to the cashier.

I would have taken the money and bought 4 bottles of cheap liquor and given them to my mother for Mother's Day.

I once found $50 in one of the large chain grocery stores. I took the money to the service desk and they said after 24 hrs I could either return for the cash or they would donate it to charity.I never went back and trusted they did the right thing.

It's 40 bucks. Is the person who lost it going to go hungry tonite? Prolly not.

Blow it on a cheap hooker and let it be a lesson to the fool to keep a better eye on his stuff.
It's not like you reached in his pocket and grabbed it. And you even made an effort to give it to the closest people.

Just think, if columbus searched around to find out whose land this was he landed on way back in the day rather than staking his claim .... america would still be owned and ran by the native indians.
