Ferd, obviously he has won Acadamy Awards and I think our friends the French even have given him an award or two! :D My point was not that I put any value on these awards but to say his movies are not documentaries is a little off base.
Now to say he doesn't have an agenda is wrong also. He has as much of an agenda as that Spinning to the Right O'Reilly guy and Mr. Limbaugh. But O'Reilly claims he doesn't spin and Rush, well, unfortunately he is so far to the right he is actually a joke.
Mr. Moore certainly has an agenda. He is with The Green Party I think? Ralph Naders group. Hell, you guys should love him because if it wasn't for his agenda Ol' Dubya would not of been won the election. Just like if it wasn't for Perot, the bj master himself Clinton never would of gotten in.

The fact that he has won awards from the French speaks volumes, doesn't it? The fact he won Academy awards means very little either when you consider that another winner this year fled the United States after drugging and raping, including anal, a 13 year old girl. I am quite certain the French could get behind (no pun intended) a guy like that! Popularity and success means very little when it comes to integrity and Moore strikes out in that regard. Eminem has won many awards for his music and film. Does that make him a hero to you? I don't mind clumping Moore with guys like Limbaugh, let's just not elevate him above anyone else that has an agenda just because his agenda agrees with yours. Hell, Yasser Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize.

of course he has an agenda...duh!

of course he has an agenda...duh!

if he didnt have a goal/agenda, his work would be bland and thoughtless. anyone involved in the field who doesnt have an agenda wouldnt survive.

his agenda just happens to be more human and decidedly more beneficial to the society as a whole than the meatheads he is working so hard to expose.

please dont place what mike does in the same field as limbaugh and o'reilly. limbaugh and o'reilly succeed on the basis of keeping us afraid and polarizing groups in the US.

GARDENWEASEL...you need some serious help. judging a guy on his physical stature is pathetic. i suppose stephen hawking is nothing more than a cripple taking up space that could be better used by us folks with functional legs???????????? yikes, you need to reexamine your criteria.

what im beginning to believe, after reading these posts, is that you folks have never read anything by Mike or seen any of his film work. if that is the case, please do not waste mine/our time with your mindless posts.

Iraqi civilians feed hungry US marines
Sat Mar 29, 4:16 PM ET Add Top Stories - AFP to My Yahoo!

CENTRAL IRAQ (AFP) - Iraqi civilians fleeing heavy fighting have stunned and delighted hungry US marines in central Iraq (news - web sites) by giving them food, as guerrilla attacks continue to disrupt coalition supply lines to the rear.

Sergeant Kenneth Wilson said Arabic-speaking US troops made contact with two busloads of Iraqis fleeing south along Route Seven towards Rafit, one of the first friendly meetings with local people for the marines around here.

"They had slaughtered lambs and chickens and boiled eggs and potatoes for their journey out of the frontlines," Wilson said.

At one camp, the buses stopped and women passed out food to the troops, who have had to ration their army-issue packets of ready-to-eat meals due to disruptions to supply lines by fierce fighting further south.

Civilians have remained largely out of sight since the invasion began 10 days ago. Towns and villages are virtually deserted, prompting speculation that most had shifted to safer ground before the fighting began.

Corpsman Tony Garcia said the food donation was an act of appreciation for the American effort to topple the brutal regime of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

"They gave us eggs and potatoes to feed our marines and corpsmen. I feel the local population are grateful and they want to see an end to Saddam Hussein," he said.

"It was a lovely, beautiful gesture."

Khairi Ilrekibi, 35, a passenger on one of the buses, which broke down near the marine position, said he could speak for the 20 others on board.

In broken English he told a correspondent travelling with the marines: "We like Americans," adding that no one liked Saddam Hussein because "he was not kind."

He said Iraqi civilians living near him were opposed to Saddam Hussein and that most were hiding in their homes and were extremely tired.

Lance Corporal David Polikowsky stood guard over 70 POWS near the broken down bus, saying how grateful he was for food cooked and donated by locals, which included oranges.

Looking on warily at the POWS he was guarding, who included two Jordanians, as well as an Iraqi colonel, captain, major and second lieutenant from special forces and the regular army, he said he had been moved by comments from local civilians.

He said they told him: "We welcome you. What is your name? We will pray for you."

He said another group of POWS, largely conscripts, had been moved south.

"They told me they wanted to go to America after the war. I said where. They said California. I said why? They said the song Hotel California and they left singing Hotel California."

Soldiers with this marine division -- on the east of a two-pronged thrust toward Baghdad -- have seen some of the fiercest fighting of the war so far.

i guess that you do have a point regarding my attacks on moore`s physical stature..it`s to easy....as are moores`s ridiculous attacks on everything conservative in america .....the comparison between moore and hawking is so flawed that i`m a bit surprised you`d waste the space in drawing a comparison....one is afflicted with a terrible disease of which he has no choice but to endure......the other is inflicted with the terrible self indulgent character and physical flaws of oafishness and gluttony over which he has absolute control if he had one iota of self control....

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
no one with much experience watching documentaries would mistake Moore for a fine director, like Pennebaker. Or the Hughes Bros (anyone see the Hughes' excellent "American Pimp"?)

but Moore is funny and entertaining. and that's something.

ever see his stuff for "Mad TV"?

I recall one hilarious piece where he drove thur Detroit with Dr Kevorkian, in Jack's classic 1964 red Impala convertible, to a lovely picnic in the countryside. While eating fried chicken and lounging on the blanket, he broached questions about killing people.

Flash - So O'Reilly and Limbaugh scare you? Why exactly is that? I can't recall either of them ever scaring me. Moore doesn't scare me, either, as I can discern fact from fiction. If you could do the same, I don't think Rush or Bill would scare you anymore.

"American Pimp" was awesome -- a good documentary it was not.

I too, am a Michael Moore fan, but it appears he takes some liberties. However, there are so few priominent people who question the role of big business in politics, and inherent behavior of americans, and class differences that I think its important to have his voice out there.

His new film is primarily going to be about the removal of rights of Americans post 9/11 in the name of protection. I think that's an important topic. Since 9/11 we've seen clients not allowed lawyers, searches and seizures without cause, wire-tapping, government getting lists of who reads what from libraries and other things. I think when someone puts a whole film together laying these things out, its going to be very enlightening (maybe moreso to those republicans with the rallying cry of "less government").

Flash- I see even in Hellah's 'Good Bye' thread you have to bring up the 'US against Them" mentality. I am not here to antagonize, provoke or bash your thinking, I'd rather learn what's your mindset. I think I'd be man enough to admit if I were wrong or at least look @ my flaws, but seems like you have to rehash or start w/namecalling when you feel uncomfortable, i.e., 'squirming.'
Michael Moore makes Prize Winning & Popular Documentaries, (according to your rationale), but Limbaugh and O'Reilly scare and polarize these same people- " its all the sheep we call citizens that buy the crap these idiots are selling. Far too many people out there take what they say as gospel w/out further examination."
As much as Scott of Atlanta gets bashed he still picks himself up and can even give Kudos to Eddie Haskell or others he has disagreed with. I like this board and get a wealth of info on it and think everyone should feel free to participate. No need to keep on the offensive just because someone does not see eye to eye w/you-IMHO. And I am only human so I can't resist:"As always we'll let the audience decide."

i understand that these boards are for posting ones views and argument over current issues. the fact that i am one of the few people on here that takes the "anti" view puts me in a precarious position. i am a rather argumentative and sharp-tongued person, i'll admit...but if you go back and review the posts that i have responded to, you'll see many, many slurs aimed at those who stand up for the causes i believe in. therefore, i dont feel that i have been unprovoked. not that that is an excuse for the acidic nature of my posts. i just enjoy venting my spleen! lol

i am not "uncomfortable". i simply enjoy the rhetoric on the site. it doesnt take much to get me going, i have a background in policy/social issues. as meanspirited as some of the posts may seem, the overall intent is to get people to think/question their stances. if no one kept on the offensive, this board would be BORING! if we all agreed, this would be about as exciting as listening to Flush Limbaugh...ugh. lol
