Went to a friends camper (permanently parked) this weekend 20 feet off a river with the whole woods thing going on.

Any ideas of the natural variety to maybe get these winged demons to look for easier prey?

We spray down with Off and it works well enough, but they always seem to find the centimeter of skin that was missed.

I know they don't like tomato plants, but that's not the look that would fit here.

I'm looking for something I maybe could place outside that's not electronic or a poisen (many little one's around at times).

Try Garlic

Try Garlic

[Garlic in your diet]
I read this somewhere. Of course I can't ward off swarms of those suckers, but when a few are present, they seem to leave me alone when I have garlic in my diet.

I've heard swallowing garlic pills or raw garlic, eating bananas, and taking supplemental B vitamins. However the best thing to keep them away is a product called ThermaCELL. Lots of hunters used it, and it even keeps them away in places like the swamps of South Carolina and the eastern shore of Maryland. Here is a link ThermaCELL

deep woods off and musk oil, works well. The best defense though is when you see dozens or hundreds of Dragon Flys, which eat their weight in mosquitos every day.

its been a wet year in most areas, great conditions for the insects. Black flys are much worse though.

Pesky mosquitos.

Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cookout.
So you don't like those pesky mosquitos, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West Nile Virus? Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum.

Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them ...
the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but mosquitos flock to it and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.
Check this out--it works just super! May seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitos around your home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the West Nile virus is reaching epidemic proportions in mosquitos, birds, and humans.
Pass it along!!!!!!!!!!

just a quick note on West nile. saw an item where people were lining up to have a shot to hopefully prevent getting this virus.

in Manitoba alone up to 10,000 people may get the virus this summer, but it is urged that people do not get checked for it. unless you are very ill and have a weak immune system you should not fear the diesease. most of these people if not all will feel no ill effects.

heard an interview yesterday and the expert who studies SARS and other "killer" viruses and west nile does not really concern him. more concerned with a virus that just appears and that the body has no defense against. similar to SARS or the spanish flu that killed millions.
