- Karl Rove said Monday that Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry may harm his campaign by stoking the "birther" controversy.

"You associate yourself with a nutty view like that, and you damage yourself," Rove said.

In an interview published Sunday in Parade magazine, Texas Gov. Perry said he believes the president was born in the United States, but was less confident that the birth certificate he released earlier this year was real.

"I don't know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night," Perry said. "He doesn't think it's real."

Real estate mogul Donald Trump championed the "birther" movement during his flirtation with a bid for the White House. President Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii, eventually released the long form version of the document to seemingly combat the growing rumors.

But Rove, who was the chief campaign and message architect for former President George W. Bush, said Perry should not associate with the group.

"I know he went and he's trying to cultivate ? Donald Trump, in order to get his endorsement, but this is not the way to go about doing it," Rove said on Fox News. "It starts to marginalize you in the minds of some of the people whom you need in order to get the election."

According to Rove, Perry should have said: "Yes, he [Obama] was born in the United States, yes, he is eligible to serve and don't associate yourself with this nutty fringe group."
...........................................................................

Even Rove knows that birthers are some right wing nutjobs.

Of course Perry dont see this .

He sees putting Obamas feet to the fire with this.

stupid is what stupid does

PS - Ronnie - Karl Rove just called you a nutjob to your face. :scared

Perry's new tax plan . cut balance the cheese

\But what he proposed on Tuesday is to keep the federal tax code intact and add an optional flat tax.

Inherently that makes the tax code more complex, not less.

The GOP presidential candidate's "Cut, Balance and Grow Plan" would give taxpayers a choice.

"Central to my plan is giving every American the option of throwing out the three million words of the current tax code and the costs of complying with that code in order to pay a 20% flat tax on their income," Perry said in a speech in South Carolina.

........................................................................

Accountants will love this one. They get to do two returns to figure out which one is cheaper for the taxpayer.

This is going to get torn apart in the next few weeks.

who is the we that came up with this one ?

lets face it, our tax code aint going anywhere for the next few centurys

Rick Perry, who made clear during his Bill O'Reilly interview last night that he finds the debate formats geared toward promoting a fight, is going to the No. 9 one after that - but is a question mark for some of the glut of face-offs after that.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the issue is using time wisely, and noted their campaign is not alone in that.

"I think all the campaigns are expressing frustration right now," Miner told POLITICO. "We said we would do Michigan but the primaries are around the corner and you have to use your time accordingly."

.......................................................................

I would use his time wisely also .

Keep him as far the fawk away from a debate as you can for as long as you can. :142smilie

Even Obama would eat Perrys lunch at a debate.

Compared to two other GOP contenders Perry is an intellectual dud. He is not qualified to run this country. Better off staying in Texas. His flat tax nonsense will make him fall flat on his face.

And all Perry did was stir it up with Mittens, instead of talking about issues that are important to the American people like helping the middle class, and not coming up with a smokescreen tax plan instead of a jobs plan

E.B. NJ

Perry isn't really ready for the national stage. He is going to fail because he doesn't understand all the issues and the people involved.

Rick Perry should regret placing his arrogant, egocentric prescence in everyone's face....if he really believes he should be our president...he needs to retake American History so he understands what successful US Presidents did...GW not in that group

The debates are important more how one carrries himself/herself in them rather than most of the substance. A President is out there every day more vulnerable to everyone's opinion - both domestic and overseas. We instantly can see if that person can handle unexpected crises. Therefore, he should not regret this training ground.

his arrogant unkind face and persona just gives me fear....not respect...how do you think he would do in Middle east talks? How about Asian relations? yeah NOT GOOD....Arrogance and egocentrism don't equal a respectable trusted leader...

If Perry had performed better in the debates and was leading in the polls, he would be talking about how he made all the right moves and how well the debates were handled. Instead, he now just wants something to blame for his own missteps and lack of abilities.

This goofball's problem is he can't speak, period. It's gotta be killing him. He claimed God told him to get into the race, but evidently God didn't let on that he would be polling just a touch better than Bachmann while he is getting hammered by Cain and Romney. Imagine, the Governor of the fabulous state of Texas getting manhandled by a Pizza exec and a flip-flopping Mormon. God seems to have a great sense of humor, or irony, or maybe some Old Testament anger at people who use His image like Dick Perry has.

James Carville underscored the concerns among Democrats about the current economic picture and what it means for 2012 in a radio interview with Scott Hennen:

"Everything worries me in this environment. Nobody?s gotten elected with these kinds of numbers. So, I?m worried in the general election. I profoundly admit that. Again, Romney?s just making a technocratic kind of confidence argument, and he?s really kind of a windsock of a guy. If you don?t like his position on something, give it a day he?ll change it."

To some extent, underscoring concern helps gin up the Democratic base and crystallizes the fact that there will be a nominee fairly soon, after months of a slow-moving race.

Carville, in addition to panning Mitt Romney, broadly trashed Rick Perry, :SIB

He also said that Herman Cain "is not going to be the president of anything. Herman Cain goes out and he got a 999, and it?s 909, and he?s like changing area codes. The guy can?t even figure out what his position on abortion yet, which is kind of a basic issue. He gleefully professes ignorance on foreign policy. Again, I?m not, but if I were a person, if I had a conservative world view and I was looking for our next election to have somebody to articulate that view, I would be unbelievably disappointed. Herman Cain is a salesman. I mean, he?s not trying in one sense. He?s just trying to get some attention. He?s not going to get the nomination."

................................................................

One things about Carville is he dont pull no punchs.

The knives are out for Marco Rubio.

Ever since revelations surfaced that the Florida senator had made a series of misstatements about his family history, a Democratic-leaning political action committee called American Bridge 21st Century has compiled other instances in which Rubio appeared to get his facts wrong on the same subject.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, American Bridge president Rodell Mollineau confirmed that political calculations for 2012 were a motivating factor for aggregating the damaging material.

"Oh yeah, I think that it does. And I'm not making any bones about that," Mollineau said.

Despite pleas from Republicans, Rubio has ruled out being on the GOP ticket in 2012. But that has not stopped the chatter in Washington. Top Republicans believe Rubio as a vice presidential nominee could take Florida away from President Obama who won the battleground state by roughly 200 thousand votes in 2008.

"If he is going to be bandied about as a vice presidential candidate, don't you think people should know more about him?" Mollineau asked. "We'd like the American people to know a little bit more about Marco Rubio," he added.

The Washington Post first reported on the discrepancies in Rubio's public comments on his life story last week.

The controversy forced his staff to correct errors in the biography posted on his Senate web site.

Until last week, that Senate bio stated: "In 1971, Marco was born in Miami to Cuban-born parents who came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover." Now it reads: "Marco was born in Miami in 1971 to Cuban exiles who first arrived in the United States in 1956."

During a series of events in Florida Thursday, Rubio admitted to reporters he botched the details of his own family story.

"Do I wish I had known those dates? Absolutely. Does it change anything? Absolutely not," Rubio said.

The political operatives at American Bridge say the dates do matter. They've posted a YouTube video that shows a montage of sound bytes in which Rubio repeatedly refers to himself and his family as "exiles."

"I was raised by exiles," Rubio says in one clip. In another clip, Rubio says his family left Cuba in 1959.

The video accuses the senator of embellishing his life story for political gain and suggests Rubio is not really a Cuban exile because his parents left the island before Castro took power.

During interviews throughout his campaign for the Senate, Rubio labeled his family as "exiles."

"It's hard to be apolitical when you're exiles or raised by exiles," Rubio said in a CNN interview last year.

Rubio does not apologize. He says his parents are exiles because they could not return to Cuba under communism.

"They spent the rest of their lives, my mom is still alive, permanently separated from their nation of birth. That makes them both exiles and immigrants," Rubio told reporters.

Mollineau accused Rubio of playing a game of semantics over the definition of the term "exiles." He called on the senator to admit he "misled" voters.

"I think at this point the only person that's keeping the story alive is actually not us. I think it's actually Senator Marco Rubio," Mollineau said.

Mollineau is a former staffer for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The American Bridge PAC he heads receives much of its funding from unions and high profile California contributors. It was founded by David Brock, who also launched the liberal media watchdog group, Media Matters for America.

According to Federal Election Commission records, American Bridge has collected $100,000 contributions from the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees and the Service Employees International Union. Hollywood director JJ Abrams chipped in $37,500.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Cuban American Republican Congresswoman from South Florida, says Rubio is under attack because he could divert Latino votes away from Democratic candidates.

"They're going to try to do everything that they can to tear him down," Ros-Lehtinen said. "Marco Rubio's family is the Cuban exile experience, whether they came pre-Castro or post," she added.

At a hearing of her committee Thursday, Ros-Lehtinen mocked questions about Rubio's exile status in a query of her own to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"My question madam secretary deals with my native homeland of Cuba. Although in recent weeks I feel the need to carry my papers with me to find out when it is that I actually got to the United States," Ros-Lehtinen quipped.

One of Perry's rivals for the GOP nomination sought to score points off the possibility that Perry might bow out of some debates.

"I thought Texas governors were supposed to be tough," Hogan Gidley, a spokesman for former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum said in a statement. "How can Gov. Perry expect anyone to trust he can take on Obama and the Democratic machine when he thinks debating his fellow Republicans is too tough? This just shows he doesn't have what it takes to lead the American people in taking back our country in 2012."

Well, maybe. But Cain?s own message has been awfully muddled lately.

He told Piers Morgan that abortion was ?a choice that that family or that mother has to make,? and ?not me as president. Not some politician. Not some bureaucrat.? He later insisted he wasn?t changing his pro-life position.

Gordon concedes this was a misstep?Cain was ?really tired? in the midst of seven interviews that day, he says?but defends the candidate?s language. ?He didn?t say anything that was inconsistent with his beliefs. But he was taken out of context by people who want to distort it for political gain.?

Cain told Wolf Blitzer after the recent Israeli-Palestinian prisoner exchange that he?d consider trading hundreds of Gitmo detainees for one U.S. soldier, but later walked it back. That was a mistake Cain would not have made ?if he?d been rested,? Gordon says. ?Mr. Cain was only going on about four hours? sleep. He did correct it right away?he would not negotiate with terrorists.?

The bumbling didn?t end there. Cain said he was joking about wanting to build an electrified border fence that would kill illegal immigrants, but then said he wanted a fence and, well, it could be electrified. He struggled to defend his 9-9-9 plan against widespread criticism that it would raise taxes on most people who aren?t rich before modifying the proposal to make exceptions for the poor.
....................................................................

Ricky D and Cain both were tired on the campaign trail .

What Is It About 'Simpler Taxes' That Republicans Don't Understand?
Oct 25 2011,

The other day I commented on Herman's Cain's 9-9-9 plan, which turns out on closer analysis to be three VATs for the price of one. Replacing taxes on incomes and profits with a national sales tax, which is what Cain appears to be proposing, would indeed be simple--but not if you collected it in three tranches, each with its own tax-gathering apparatus and associated complexities.

Now, in something of the same spirit, the US is offered the alternative simplicity of the Perry flat tax.

This simple 20% flat tax will allow Americans to file their taxes on a postcard, saving up to $483 billion in compliance costs. By eliminating the dozens of carve-outs that make the current code so incomprehensible, we will renew incentives for entrepreneurial risk-taking and investment that creates jobs, inspires Americans to work hard and forms the foundation of a strong economy.
I note in passing that Perry's flat tax is not flat. (For families earning less than $500,000, he says, exemptions for mortgage interest and state and local taxes would remain. Effective tax rates would therefore vary according to circumstances. Also, the marginal rate would spike in some range of incomes above $500,000 as the exemptions were denied, then fall back at higher levels of income.) I also note in passing that this tax, at the rate indicated, has no chance of raising the 18% of national income that Perry intends to spend, or anything close to that. But for the moment I'm concentrating on the Republicans' difficulty with the concept of simplicity.

The comical thing is that this new tax would be voluntary: taxpayers could choose to be taxed under the existing code if they preferred. This is simpler? To know which code saves you money, you would obviously have to calculate your taxes under both systems. You or your adviser would still have to comprehend the "carve-outs that make the current code so incomprehensible". Maybe if you opted for the Perry tax you would be able to file on a postcard--but before making that choice you'd need to do your taxes the old way first. Thanks for nothing.

In future, I dare say, taxpayers could look forward to even greater complexity, as Congress tinkered with not one but two tax codes. In the fullness of time, to relieve the added burden, a new measure could be introduced: an even simpler Very Flat Tax, also voluntary, allowing taxpayers to choose from three codes, with the option for qualifying households of filing by tweet. Think of the compliance savings.
..........................................................................

Lets face it.

Perry dont want to rock the huge boat that is the american tax system.

It is a flat tax for all americans, but you dont have to use it. We will keep everything as it is now for the ppl that just want to roll in the muck of taxing
for the next 20 more years.

we are talking billions of greenbacks here.

thousands of jobs down. BBC ? maybe a career change to follow in DTBlackgumbys footsteps. Nothing easier than selling insurance. Sit on your fat ass and just ring the register. Marketing courses :142smilie :142smilie

GOP love the complcations, it helps the rich ppl to get more for their money .

Pity really ..........

I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me, and causes me to tremble for the safety of our country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people, until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the republic is destroyed. The Government should create, issue, and circulate all the currency, and credits needed to satisfy the spending power of the Government, and the buying power of consumers. By the adoption of these principals, the taxpayers will be saving immense sums of interest. Money will cease to be master, and become the servant of humanity.

I'll be blunt with all you Perry supporters, it's time to butter your guy because he's toast. Every day it's a new dumb thing. From birtherism, to convoluted tax policy, to inarticulate attacks, to woeful ignorance and even stupidity on foreign policy (Pakistani country? Please), to placing his wife under such stress that she is lashing out at everything around her.

Not only is Rick Perry utterly incapable of running for president, he can't run his state, and in fact can't meet the basic requirement for any politician -- he can't even run his mouth.

As if he hasn't made a big enough fool of himself, he decides to go out and have lunch with Donald Trump and falls for the birther strategy. Good God, can this guy do anything? I guess I should be fair to him, he has shown that he can get the same people he gave contracts to as governor of Texas to contribute to his campaign. Wow, what an achievement.

To tell you the truth, it's gotten so bad people in Louisiana are actually starting to make Texas jokes.

If this thing gets any worse the people in Mississippi will be making Texas jokes -- then you've really hit rock bottom.

Rick, you have managed to embarrass yourself and irritate the hell out of me. So I guess you are good at something after all.

PS: See where the media is reporting that Perry is "retooling" his campaign. I think their problem is with the Indian, not the arrow.
