Police: Burglar Took Daughters To Work
By John Lyon
Police arrested a woman Monday who they said was caught in the act of burglarizing a Van Buren home while accompanied by her two young children.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Lura Lane at 2:33 p.m. Monday, after a neighbor reported that someone other than the owner was removing property from the residence, Van Buren police detective Sgt. Steve Weaver said. When the officers arrived, they found Candice Arnold, 35, of Van Buren inside the home and her two daughters, ages 3 and 9, sitting in a vehicle in the driveway.
Numerous items that had been taken from the house were in the vehicle when the officers arrived, Weaver said. Police contacted the owner of the residence, who said she did not know Arnold and had not given anyone permission to be in her home.
Arnold appeared to be under the influence of drugs and could not give coherent answers to questions, Weaver said.
Arnold was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, theft of property and endangering the welfare of a minor. The children were released to a relative.
The Department of Human Services has been notified of the incident, Weaver said.
