for starters:

1) teams coming into a bowl gm off a loss dont perform particularly well, especially when coupled with their opponent off a win/ or a string of wins. furthermore, teams coming in off deflating losses at the wire of their recent gm are poor bets in their next gm.

2) toledo's defense has given up an average of 31 points the last month. theyre NOT peaking defensively like they should be

3) both power conference teams that toledo played jammed the ball down their throat.

4) toledo's kicking game is HORRID. its almost as bad as michigan's kicking game. no reliability in field goals, and extra points have become adventures with them.

on the flip side, toledo will move the ball and score their share of points. theyre efficient on offense. but they havent played all that well on the road/neutral this year. if not for their miracle at dekalb, theyd be 2-4 on the road/neutral.

ill put it this way- every time ive had success backing toledo, its been in the glass bowl. every time they come up lame, its away from home.

Trends are a joke...I hope you dont base your capping based on numbers....

Misleading scores....

CMU/Toledo - Was 44-3 going into the 4th quarter....Then CMU scored 14

WMU/Toledo - WMU scored 21 in 1 quarter....turnovers in Toledo territory helped WMU score...

NIU/Toledo - Nobody has stopped Micheal Turner, how can you expect Toledo to stop him. Plus Toledo played a 4-2-5 defense....Another words they said "Turner you can have your yards...but you wont have the big plays"

BG/Toledo - BG really didnt score 24 points. Possesions started for BG...Toledo 10, Toledo 38, Mid-Field, Toledo 30,

True toledo's kicking game blows....but how many BC games have you watched this year?!?! BCs kicker isnt any better....

You do realize this is a home game for Toledo? 45 minutes up I-75 is still a home game for Toledo....and Toledo coaches and players know it...hell BC players and coaches know that. Half the Toledo roster IS FROM Michigan and the Detroit area.

By the way....Will Bratton will be playing this game....

You still havent showed me why BC will win. Ive watched/lisnted them against Rutgers - Va Tech - Cuse - WVU - Pitt - Stanford - ND and Navy....only in the ND game they KINDA raised my eye brows....but other then that....they did nothing to impress me.

hellah:

theres nothing anyone can do to make a loyal fan look truly objectively at his team's/school's games.

teams coming in off a loss performing subpar in bowls, especially when their final gm was lost in heartbreaking fashion, is not a "trend". its called human nature. if you dont think teams are affected one way or another by tough, down-to-the-wire-and-have-your-heart-ripped-out losses, well then its not worth debating.

how did miami perform the following gm after getting their heart ripped out in marshall in the final 1:00 of play? they got destroyed by central florida. theres a mac example for you. i could give you 5 examples of the top of my head alone. sh1t like that lingers. if you want to refute the belief that 19-20 yr old kids let losses linger longer than they should- go for it.

the "nobody stopped micheal turner so how do you expect toledo to stop him" argument is pretty weak. turner rushed for 213 yds against them. im thinkin knight is gonna be able to squeak out some rush yds vs that porous defense.

as ive said 100 times, i know the game is an hour away from their campus.

toledo had somewhat of an "edge" last yr playing in the bowl gm because it was their first bowl gm in awhile and it was in detroit. and they came out and looked pretty lame against a mediocre cincinnati squad. what im saying is a much better toledo team that had EVERYTHING to play for last year was mediocre in their bowl game. i had toledo in that game and i was pretty surprised at how poorly they played. a weaker toledo team faces a tougher opponent this year. itll be interesting to see how this plays out.

like i said, if an outsider came in- he'd think toledo has never lost a game this year and is playing for the national title. i dont think bc is particularly good, but did perform well vs high caliber opponents.

simply think class wins out here. rockets just outclassed imo.

Motor City Bowl isnt sub-par for Toledo....its sub par for BC

And I wont believe in rip your heart out losses either....considering the game is on Decemeber 26th and the MACC was on December 7th....little 3 weeks to clear your mind....Marshall loss wont come into factor. The Miami(OH) game against UCF was a good example because Miami knew they were out of the MAC Contention....

IMO, Toledo is a stronger team this season. Last year's team got destroyed by BG, lost to Ball State and barely beat Navy. They also were only 5-6-1 ATS. This year's team lost at Pitt although they threw for over 330 yds and outfirst downed Pitt. Minny scored a TD in closing seconds to snare the cover. Toledo went into DeKalb and spotted the Huskies a 17-0 lead and came back to win then spotted BG a halftime lead and blew them away in the 2nd half. St. Pierre is no Leftwich, and come to think of it, BC's RB is no Michael Turner. BC has some talent but they play stupid (see the Va Tech game). I can't imagine a team from a major conference (relatively major) being excited about spending Xmas in Detroit.

Gman- Don't bother banging your head against the wall. Plenty of excuses why Toledo lost or why they had a close game. Same things can be said about dozens of other teams...lots of "if's" and "woulda coulda's".

Toledo has beaten a few good MAC teams..No Illinois, UCF, and Bowling Green. Outside of the conference they did ZILCH. Beat Cal-Poly and UNLV. I'm not overly impressed. Lost to Minnesota team that was exposed once it started Big Ten play. Lost by 18 at Pitt...down 21-6 at the half and 27-6 to start the third quarter, and got a bunch of garbage yards in the fourth..I don't care how you slice it, that game was a no-doubter after halftime.

BC is by no means a great team, but they are solid and have a much tougher schedule. They took Pitt to OT, were right there against Va Tech, played Miami extremely tough for 3 quarters, won at ND, and trounced Syracuse, who is probably better than any of the teams Toledo beat.

I'm not a big St. Pierre fan. Threw a ton of INT's this season, which scares me, but he can have his moments and his mobility is a bonus. Knight and that O-line is going to have a field day against Toledo's D (or lack of). On both sides of the ball, this is going to be the most physical team Toledo has faced this season. They lost a bunch of players from last year, but this is a team that beat Georgia in last years bowl game..this isn't cupcake city baby.

Hope that line keeps moving down.
