A friend sent me this because I told her it didn't look like a movie I'd enjoy. This is what she said:

I liked The Judge. I?d give it a 7 out of 10??you might give it a 6?

I?m not sure how you?d feel about it.

It?s a sentimental film?.made me think about my Mom and Dad a lot and the relationships I had with them at the end.

One of those ?what have I done with my life?? movies??.

These are the nicer RT reviews that seemed to hit the mark for me:

The Judge visits small-town, rural America in such a way that movies hardly ever do anymore.

The Judge is a very familiar tale of a man that finds humility in a return to his hometown - albeit one with a few genuinely powerful moments of drama.

Finally Robert Downey gets an intelligent script, a fine director, and the opportunity to act opposite someone like Robert Duvall.

It's scintillating to see these two outstanding actors parry with one another, buttressed by a good supporting cast.

This is not by any means a bad movie. The script has its bright patches, the setting is picturesque, and the cast is full of actors you'll want to see.
