I'm picking Mundine by early to mid round KO, although I acknowledge Echol's punching power.
Aussies....will Echols be the home-town favorite or has Mundine repaired his public image?
IMO, Mundine will get real popular real fast if he starches Echols.
What do others think?

Echols has a lot of power, no doubt about it. Mundine has superquick hands and also awesome power.
Can Mundine's chin take an Echols bomb? Or can Mundine land one of his own using his speed?
I saw an interview on TV last Thursday night and Mundine looked like a new man, he wasn't bragging. He seemed very humble and acknowledged that he was in for a very hard bout against the hard punching Echols. Perhaps he has turned over a new leaf?
I reckon Mundine's best chance will be to land a power shot early while Echols is trying to figure him out.

I like Echols by KO as well, although there might certainly be a scare or two along the way. Perhaps it was just the style matchup, but Echols gave Hopkins more problems than anyone else in the last eight years, including Holmes and Tito. I think this is his time to finally take the next step.

Not confident on this one. I only saw Echols vs Hopkins 2, which Hopkins masterly defence (using everything) negated Echols. I don't like the Brewer fight. Mundine hits harder than Brewer and has much quicker hands.
Like I said before, Mundine KO's are like walking into a clothes-line. He really hurts. But I question his heart in a war. No way I'm puttin gmoney down on this one, but Mundine by mid roudn KO.
REgarding Mundine's popularity, well basically he doesn't have any. He's regarded as a cokky prikk. People watch to see him fail. On the other hand, no aussie is going to cheer a seppo (australian rhyming slang for US citizen). In the end, the crowd willl cheer for the underdog, or whoever puts in the guttsiest performance. We aussies love a battler.

Well, both fighters seem like plonkers to me. Mundine and his comments (and also the fact that he promised he would retire as soon as he lost, liar!). Echols too goes round thinking he's world champion and has definately priced him out of a match with Ottke, maybe with Calzaghe aswell.
Conan has made some points about Echols that I have been thinking for a while. He's really is living off the back of a good display against Hopkins at Middleweight and a good comeback against Brewer (he's done little between or since those fights). However, I have my doubts as to whether he's a strong super middleweight. Brewer is a biggish puncher, but he had Echols gone twice. I've always had the impression that Echols is a decent middleweight trying to cash in on a dire supermiddle devision (which is what the devision was invented for! For has been or never will be Middlweights to get a title).
I've been saying for quite some time, that I believe Aaron Davis is currently the number 1 US Supermiddle (even though I have Echols ranked ahead due to his victory over Brewer). Jeff Lacy now may have taken the inactive Davis's mandle though.
Something tells me that Echols is more hype than geniune super middleweight threat, very good (World class) Middleweight, but not sure about his whiskers and strength at this weight.
Having said that, if Ottke can KO Mundine (I know it was primarly through exhaustion but still it is Ottke), then I fully expect Echols to have a similar capability. I think 1 punch can change the outcome of this fight, not necassirly a 1 punch KO, but will lead to a barrage of punches that will finish it early.
I think, the inexperience of Mundine will let him down. I give him credit for fighting a meaningful fight though, he could have fought bums and waited for another shot. But I think Echols will land the telling punch first.
Echols by KO in the 5th.

I don't think yall are realizing how hard Echols hits...Hopkins has one of the best chins of an active fighter, he was seriously hurt by Echols.
It would take a real boxer to get out of the first few rounds with Echols. I have not seen Mundine, but from what I have read, he isn't that great (and to get KO'd, even by exhaustion, by Ottke seems to corraborate that claim)
He will have expertly manuever around Echols wild, Mayorga-like swings, and manage to build up a point base from a safe range. If he ever gets in trouble, Echols will finish him off.
I admit to not knowing tons about Mundine, but I am going to be positively shocked if this guy walks out of that ring on his own will.

I agree totally with Scott. Echols hits like a freaking mack truck. He isnt a very schooled fighter but he has atomic bombs to back him up... Hopkins was wobbled in a way that I have never seen before when Echols landed a right hand. Tito never made Hopkins flinch. I predict Echols by eary to mid KO.

Yo Scott, KidD,
to paraphrase. I don't think y'all know how hard Mundine hits. The Mundine highlight real is full of one-punch-and-all-life-goes-out-of-body moments. He's also hasn't been fighting complete scrubs, he's been keeping busy with regional belts agaisnt fighters with 27-8 records or so.
But like I said before, I question his heart, not his talent. And so he might not like being in a war with Echols. The bookies have theis fight even, and I'm staying well away from it.

Conan,
Mundine may not have been fighting complete scrubs but Echols has been fighting much tougher opposition. Name one legit top 25 super middle he's fought other than Ottke. I think Mundine does have an edge in recent activity - but he is still decidedly inexperienced at the top level compared to Echols.
The only clip I've seen of Mundine was from the Ottke fight and it looked like he ran into a clothesline.
I spoke to Lamont Jones, Echols' attorney, and he said that Echols is reluctant to go to Australia - but hey one of 'em had to travel and the Aussies were offering a lot more money.
I don't doubt that Mundine has good physical skills and this one seems like whoever lands the big bombs first will come out a winner. I can't help but think that if this one was in the states that Echols would win relatively easily. But - it's not in the US and Echols is coming back from being shot.
Like you said Conan, it's a tough one to pick. If Mundine can handle the pressure of fighting in front of his people in a big fight, then he could prevail in this one. But I'm predicting that he chokes and Echols stops him late - 10th or 11th round.

that said, echols is a very, very big puncher...and he doesn`t fluster easily......he`s been in punchouts with big-time,world class, heavy handed guys.....hopkins,charles brewer,a very tough kabary salem and he fought a very tough, iron chinned eric lucas to a draw in cananda.....
do you guys think mundine could go up to canada and beat or even draw with lucas on his home turf?.....it would be difficult........echols has been on enemy turf before.....
just weighing in regarding what a tough nut echols is.....i think you just probably might be looking at a belt holder if not for hopkins` presence....not at all familiar with young mundine...
one thing i will say...i`m not sure that echols is a natural super middleweight now....the added weight may dilute the power a little......but the guy is tough....can come back from being badly hurt by big punchers....mundine will earn his money......echols isn`t a guy i`d be fighting unless it was a mandatory....
