NewsChannel 5 has learned that St. Louis Blues player Mike Danton has been charged in connection with a murder for hire plot.
Danton, a 23-year-old center, was arrested Thursday night in San Jose, where the Blues played a playoff game.
The FBI says Danton claimed he was in fear of his life and he and a friend, Katie Wolfmeyer, 19, of Brentwood tried to hire someone to murder the person who was allegedly threatening Danton.
They contacted a third party, who then contacted the FBI.
Blues president Mark Sauer said, "It would be inappropriate for the Blues to comment on this matter at this time. There is nothing we can say except to refer this to the proper law enforcement officials. This matter is now in the hands of the judicial system."
Danton is charged with using interstate commerce with the intent that a murder be committed.
