Cal is the man
I have always been a big fan of his and admired the way he played the game. He never weasled out of his contract and went to the highest bidder as well. Recently, I learned that his whole family is from Maryland as well - he could do well politically in this state if he would have remembered to register to vote
.
When I was a little kid I use to collect baseball cards. I sent him a card to sign in the 1986-1987 time frame and he returned it to me signed a week later with a letter thanking me for my interest in his career. I still have it to this day. The only other baseball player who wrote me a letter thanking me for hais interest in his career was Cory Snyder who played for the Cleveland Indians. I still hold a lot of respect for these two players who were both stars at this time in their careers and could have just pushed the mail aside like many other players did. I could mention names I got no responses from, but I will not. These are the types of players who should be considered "role models" for the kids. Anyway, Cal's the best and he deserves it
. Cal is gonna be in the hall before this decade goes by.
