My brother and s-i-l went through foster care classes n 2009/2010. As part of their extended family, I was introduced to it. They had their first child for about 4 months, but he needed a higher level of care after some theft. Nice kid, but he had never been taught much of anything.
In February of 2011, they got a call about 2am. Two teenage brothers were in the ER. In short, they had been exposed to meth chemicals bc their mom's bf was making it in the house they were living in :facepalm:
It hasn't been easy, and there are many trials left, but they still have the boys. Both boys have been active in extra-curricular activities at school and are making above average grades.
I'll shorten this up to say the boys had their first Christmas where they received some gifts. 13 and 15, and they had never had this experience of family time and the complete awesomeness of the whole Christmas experience.
It was a great time, and my brother is a saint for taking these boys in and giving them a chance at life.
I just wanted to share so we can all remember to count our blessings, and if u ever considered fostering, it is an awesome thing to do for another.
