If I had a wish, a 16 team playoff would begin this coming Friday/Saturday.

Scenario - Each conference champion get an AQ. Then the five ranked teams would follow.

#1 Auburn vs #16 Florida International
#8 Michigan State vs #9 Oklahoma
#4 Stanford vs #13 Central Florida
#5 Wisconsin vs #12 UConn

#2 Oregon vs #15 Miami, Ohio
#7 Arkansas vs #10 Virginia Tech
#3 TCU vs #14 Nevada
#6 LSU vs #11 Ohio State

First round - Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11

Second round - Friday, December 17 and Saturday, December 18

Off week

Semifinals - New Year's Day

Finals - Saturday, January 8

You still keep the bowl games, only they are in the middle of the week. First round games are held on the campus of the higher seed.

For the Quarterfinals, Semis, and Final - You use the following bowl sites:

Dallas
New Orleans
Pasadena
Glendale
Miami
Atlanta
Orlando

Rotate final game among the seven sites.

One thing I need to change:

Wild-card weekend in the NFL begins January 8th, so the final game would need to be Monday, January 10th - Oh, wait, THAT IS WHEN THE BCS TITLE GAME IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now - my predictions for round one:

#1 Auburn vs #16 Florida International
#8 Michigan State vs #9 Oklahoma
#4 Stanford vs #13 Central Florida
#5 Wisconsin vs #12 UConn

#2 Oregon vs #15 Miami, Ohio
#7 Arkansas vs #10 Virginia Tech
#3 TCU vs #14 Nevada
#6 LSU vs #11 Ohio State

My 2nd round matchups:
#1 Auburn vs #9 Oklahoma
#4 Stanford vs #5 Wisconsin

#2 Oregon vs #10 Virginia Tech
#3 TCU vs # 6 LSU

2 Games I struggled with:
Virginia Tech is on a roll right now, so I think they would play ball control on Arkansas.

I don't think Ohio State's passing game is good enough to exploit LSU's secondary. Plus, history has shown Ohio State to struggle against speed.

I also think the Oregon/VT matchup would be very interesting.

Nice idea, not sure about using all conf. winners but the top 16 ranked teams, but anyways......

You could also use the rest of the field, 17---? for the Traditional Bowl games to keep us investors busy.

I am glad you mentioned this. Let me explain why I did this and why it could be sold.

The biggest BS of the BCS, is that only selected conferences are given automatic berths. This is now proven to be a fraud, because of a mediocre at best, UConn team winning the Big East.

There are 11 conferences right now, and you have huge problems with schools jumping ship to other conferences because of football only. You give each conference an automatic berth into the field of 16. Now, Florida International is not going to be an exciting matchup for the #1 seed, but how is that different than the NCAA tournament? It would keep schools from jumping ship and trying to find other auto-berth conferences. It would also be, IMO, an easier sell to conference commishes because one school from every conference would be given representation into the playoffs. Would that not be better than FLA International playing Toledo in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl the day of Christmas in Detroit in front of 250 fans?

You still get 5 at large teams, which is going to be an easier sell than a 32 team playoff. You can also backup the selling point that every game counts in college football. I also think you would get better matchups pre-conference, because a team would not be scared of having lost a game.

#3 TCU vs # 6 LSU

.

top half of the bracket i think would beb helluva a good time too watch...dont get me wrong, good teams on bottom half too, but man OK and auburn and Stanford/wisky wow i would pay too watch both of those in a playoff....

i think lsu would beat tcu fairly comfortable (and i am a fan of the TCU and Boises). Oregon way too much sppeed for VA TECH....

Wisky and stanford both like to lineup and punch ya in the mouth.....would be great game too watch....and auburn Ok would be competitive i think...AUBURN i think is deserving of their #1 spot but OKlahoma is not a team too sleep on...

this would be amazing too see....man this thread has me wanting a playoff more then i ever have.

Love it, write this over to the powers that be. Great concept to include the smaller or lesser known conferences, makes for a feel good story and root for the underdog mentality such as in Basketball (ie Butler).

Would be great, if only....

Thanks guys - I am working on "tightening" up the format, article, etc.; but I am going to send it to every news outlet I can find.

Although you have to include the smaller conferences, I think this is practical and fiscally viable for all parties involved. Although I don't like for congress to get involved with sports for the most part, I am sending this to those that expressed concerns. They get what they want, why can't we?

What I don't want to hear is:
1 - Missed class time - they will miss zero class unless they are in the title game already.
2 - Travel concerns - this is bullshat. I went to see the Vols in the NCAA Regional in St. Louis last year, and met many fans that went to the opening two rounds.
3 - It makes the bowls meaningless - Bullshat again. The bowls are already meaningless unless:
1 - Your team is playing or
2 - You are watching New Year's bowls and/or SOME BCS bowls. I ain't watching Okie and UConn anyway.
