Not sure about the second best being in Columbus .....seems like a stretch to me, especially as dirty as that program appears to e right now.
Then again, as I think about it, there arent a whole lot of NCAA coaches I think that much of these days or that have proven much other than a year or two here or there. As much as I dont like him, Beamer has done a helluva job with that program. Carroll is a damn good coach, but geez, they might be playing tomorrow with me coaching their talent. But all things equal I would say give teams equal talent you get Stoops and Ferentz as 1-2.
If USC beats OU tom. without question Pete Carroll is the best coach in the country. No argument! Done deal. Nobody will have accomplished what Pete Carroll has accomplished.
Remember, this team playing tom. for USC is all coming back next year. If USC wins tom. start talking dynasty!
Stoops has the veteran team coming into this game and should have slight crowd advantage as well. USC also is slightly injured at RB. Lets see who wins.
definitely agree on ferentz and beamer. gotta put them right up there with anyone.
im standing behind #2 in columbus. you know i despise that team but i have so much respect for him as a football coach.
i still think carroll is right up there in the top 5. but definitely not #1 or #2. usc has always had the talent but hes getting the most out of em now. that should count for something. but doesnt make him #1 by any stretch.
the rest of the world will see that urban myer rounds out the top 5....and oh year...momar spurrier is back at south carolina
as far as talent at sc goes......isn't that part of coaching....prior to carroll sc was losing out on half the studs in so cal...now he owns so cal and picks and chooses around the country
youre dead wrong about tressel. the guy has done EXACTLY what carroll has done. kept the in-state talent at home, dominated his rival, and won a national championship. oh and hes also won 3 straight bowls OUTRIGHT as a dog.
but youre right on about spurrier and meyer. im a huge meyer fan, but only fair and proper to temper the enthusiasm until he gets it done in a bcs conference.
ball coach is one of the best of all time, so only logical to think hes back in the top 5. i cant wait for him to turn carolina around
Tressel inherited talent at OSU and still doesn't have a good offense. As I learned the hard way, Tressel doesn't open up the offense until Michigan game and bowl game. Now I know.
That doesn't make him an elite coach. Why can't he dominate opponents on a consistent basis? The year OSU won the NC OSU never dominated opponents AND often relied on luck or lets say "fortunate" plays. That is not SUPERB ELITE COACHING!
Tressel is great coach, but not an elite coach yet.
OSU has had great recruiting classes under Tressel, so what is his excuse?
OH YEAH, Tressel benefits by NEVER playing on the road! :142lmao:
Tressel certainly a great big game coach...ask Michigan and Miami,Fl. It's some of the run of the mill games he struggles with sometimes, plays it a liitle too close to the vest. Would take Stoops, Carroll, Beamer,Ferentz ahead of him, and put him on par with the likes of Tedford,Alvarez and Meyer. Can't underestimate the fertile recruiting area he can draw from each year esp compared to what's available in Iowa, Wisc...
get a clue. you of all people should be putting tresseel right up there with carroll for the reasons mentioned to gjn: they have accomplished damn near the exact same thing.
tresseel is definitely a #2 or #3 big game coach in america. there can be no denying that.
agree with him on the run of the mill games. osu doesnt play with the same intensity vs. the weak teams. then again, southern cal doesnt either, so there goes scotts argument.
