In the shadows
Bart,

I hear this song when I hear stories like yours.

The lyrics don't exactly match your story, but the title and the Chorus does.

I hope you enjoy and feel the emotion of the song as much as I do. For I have lost many

ppabart....well spoken.....I have said this here many times..." a father and mother must be there to set examples for their children..be strong and be positive role models..Role models is the key...being a role model is the most powerful form of education....I'm sure your father was like you said, a father and best friend..had strong moral principals, values and ideals and instilled them in you...and then you pass them on..
My father passed away 12 yrs ago...he was 88 and ended his career as a substitute teacher for 10 yrs...he taught on a friday and had a stroke on monday. worked right up to the end.....he wore his Manhattan College ring since 1936..all through WW2 in North Africa and Italy..my mom wanted him to be buried with the ring...I fought with her and with the help of my 4 kids convinced my mom to let me have it... the ring hangs over my bed and as korney as this may sound.. I kiss it every night and think of him.....there are many of you out there that still have your mom's and dad's....give them a call today or a hug and kiss if you can...nice post ppbart...
