My first live NHL game--any advice?

been betting hockey every day last season and this.

finally decided I should see one live!

got ticket to Stars/NY Rangers game friday 29th.
ticket in "Premier Section"---I wanted the first one to be nice.

so any advice or suggestions for the virgin hockey viewer?

anyone been to this American Airlines Arena and have any tips?

JMHO, I only go see 2 sports in person, 1 is Purdue football, the other is hockey games. I prefer to sit higher up in the mid-section, and between the blue lines. YOU WILL LOVE IT!! There're no better sports to see live, in person than hockey games.

Gotta get yourself some souvenirs, for sure. Always nice to run into a naked female fan in body paint, but I guess it's only a Toronto Mapleleaf fan kinda thing. ISn't that right, TTM$??

If you have kids to take with you go to a college hockey game. At least you will see hockey and not fighting all night. The example the pros give to kids is real real bad.

One mistake that is easy to make and really pisses of the regulars is to move into or out of your seat during play, WAIT for a break in the action to go get beer or hit the pisser, and same thing when coming back to your seat, wait for a break in the action.

My first NHL game I was overwhelmed by everything going on that u can't see when u watch on television. I like watching the line changes and shifts especially. I didn't even know that players were allowed to touch the puck until I saw a game live, then I realized that they do it all the time. Seeing hockey live is so much better than watching it on TV.

Here is some advice on your next hockey game because you will definitely want to go again after the first one. I believe there are two ways to see a hockey game. First, sit as close as you can to the glass and the bench. In these seats, you get to hear the game. You don't get to hear all of the coaching and yelling going on when it is on TV. Second, as said above, sit between the blues lines and up in the stands. I actually really like the highest tier because you get to see plays and strategy as they happen from beginning to end. It is so much easier to see that it is just not ten guys whacking around a piece of rubber and two goalies. Then again, since I am in Nashville for the time being, I usually just see five guys whacking around the puck and the other five putting it in the net!

Try to pay as much attention to the play away from the puck as you do to what is going on around puck. It will be hard to do, but I try to watch the play away from the puck when it is in my team's zone. I find the defensive positioning and the play of one of the defenseman in relation to where his partner is interesting. Great game to see live. It is worth it to sit down close at least once, but I prefer higher up too. You hear a lot more lower, but I think you don't see as much of the flow. Also, you don't get to see the pee wee kids play for 5 minutes at the 1st intermission on TV. Love watching that! Definitely stay put during the action and don't go back to your seat till there is a stoppage of play. Big no no to do that.
