Atlanta (Maddux) @ SF Giants (Hernandez)



Going with the RED HOT Giants here winners of 8 of their last 10 games!

Maddux is not the pitcher he used to be and has not fared well in San Francisco his last two trips there losing both of them, not to mention that Bonds is red hot and has a .298 lifetime avg. against Maddux with 8 homeruns. Maddux is 1-2 in his last 3 starts with a very high 6.50 ERA he is 6-5 on the road ERA of 3.25. Livan Hernandez has really turned it around with the Giants winning his last 6 starts. The last time he faced the Braves in SF he shut them out for a very nice win.

Atlanta is 27-15 as a road favorite, 8-8 as a road favorite of -125 to -150, 56-48 on grass, 46-40 at night, 37-24 on the road, losers of 6 of their last 10 and 52-47 vs. righties batting a very poor .248 as a team in their last 10 games. The Giants are 3-4 as a home dog, 3-2 as a home dog of +150 or less, 68-50 on grass, 41-21 at home, 48-32 at night and 51-42 against righties batting a very solid .289 as a team last 10 games vs. them.

Two even bullpens. With the Giants on a streak like they are having 3 batters batting .298 or better against Maddux and the Braves not being able to find any offense except against the dregs of the Majors look for the hometown dogs to get the win here!

Nice write-up. I was considering playing Braves here, but Maddux has been hit hard in last 2 starts - so I believe the apparent era edge vs. Hernandez won't apply. Unless Maddux gets blasted for a third straight time, it could be a low scoring tight match. Good luck - I will sit this out.

I think Giants +1` might be the way to go here. After all Maddux has pitched at a Cy Young pace for much of the year. Now that he has ended the no-walk streak, it's back to the business of winning games. I have a lot of respect for the braves pitching.

Well I will give you that Maddux has pitched well this year but he still has 7 losses and has shown vulnerabilities especially on the road, one thing I want to point out is that you can be the greatest pitcher in the world but if you don't have a good bullpen and someone to score runs you aren't going to win and let's face it the Braves have no offense and that is a fact and how many games has that bullpen blown this year I remember not to long ago when Glavine pitched an excellent game and left and what happened the bullpen blew it! You can't deny that! I may lose this game but I think I have a much better than average chance of winning it.
I don't think people look at all of the other factors that go into a game pitchers usually only last about an average of 5.5 innings but people base over 80% of their capping just on the pitcher I only use them as about 50% of my decision the rest is on recent form, momentum, bullpens how they have been hitting just the way I do it and works pretty good. Again I appreciate all of the responses and good luck in whoever you play.

Very solid write-up Robert, and I totally agree!! I can't believe they've made ATLANTA a ROAD FAV against San Fran. AS you mentioned, BONDS is hot, and is facing a pitcher he hits very well. You left out a very important aspect, that I don't think can be overlooked, and that is the HOTTEST HITTER in BASEBALL! LIVIAN HERNANDEZ is 11 for his last 12,

or 12 for his last 13 at bats to FLY PAST Mike Hampton as the top hitting pitcher in the NL, at over .300! He is a very solid stick, and gives SF a huge advantage at the bottom of the order. He also runs very well, so it's not like having a DAVID WELLS running in front of your leadoff guy. MADDUX throws strikes, alot of them, and if we get a tight zone UMP, one who's not giving MADDUX six inches outside each corner, he'll be in for a very long nite, as he was his last time out.

whens the last time u saw maddux at 130? Take it and run. Are u forgetting what type of pitcher he is. I gues u think maddux isn't good. It's ok, I'll take the -130. good luck

i hate to do this, but am in a big hurry. can someone look up braves record this year aganst giants and maddux's lifetime record against them, and also his numbers against bonds. Would be a tremendous help. thanks. be backin a sec.

If you read what I wrote Bonds is hitting .298 lifetime against Maddux with 8 homeruns and he has dropped his last 2 trips to SF. I don't think you can look at his numbers against them in 99 and back as he is no where near the pitcher he was then. And he is 6-5 on the road he is much better at home I would not bet this in Atlanta.
