Chicago (Lieber @ Houston (Astacio)
Well we have two teams here that are battling it out for first with the Cardinals slowly creeping up on them!

Lieber is 15-5 on the year ERA of 3.41, in his last 3 starts he has gone 2-0 with one no decision ERA of 3.38, he is 7-4 on the road ERA of 3.72 and is 4-4 against the Astros ERA of 3.49, losing two straight to them including one loss at Enron this year. Astacio's numbers are a little misleading because of the thin air of Colorado since joining the Astros he has been very solid going 1-0 in two starts ERA of 3.07 he is 6-2 lifetime against the Cubbies including a very respectable 5-1 in the last 6 against them.

The Cubs are 15-18 as a road dog, 63-49 on grass, 29-19 at night, 32-30 on the road and 55-37 vs. righties but are only batting a meager .226 as a team against them in their last 10 games. The Astros are 30-26 as a home favorite, 63-50 on grass, 32-28 at home, 51-36 at night and 53-41 vs. right handers with a very solid avg. of .300 as a team in their last 10.

The Chicago available bullpen has been rocked lately with an ERA of 8.03 in their last 3 games while the Houston bullpen has a very respectable ERA of 3.27 in their last 3.

These two teams are in a dogfight and will be playing hard the rest of the year, I like Houston to bounce back from a disappointing loss last night behind the arm of Astacio who has been very solid against the Cubbies!

Play Houston -130

I like Houston as well Robert, for most of the reasons you were kind enough to post. But I was just thinking? Is there a more over achieving, lesser appreciated starter than Lieber this season? that guy is having a incredible season.

I think Leiber shuts down houston tonight. I really like leaiber getting the +120 in this spot. AS in the total I wouldn't touch it. Just my take...

The cubs aren't going to have it any easier for the next couple weeks. The Cubs are gonna have to really turn up their production as after this big game they face Arizona, then Milwaukee (who they never can seem to find a way to beat) and then St. Louis (once again, can't seem to find a way to beat).

The streak numbers seem to give a lean to Houston tonight.

As much as I hate the cubs I think they will keep there heads above water during that stretch. They really need to get some more production from "Crime Dog " In order to hold off all the teams on there a**

I'm on the other side of the fence. I like the Cubs. Watching them throughout the years, one thing is true. In years when the Cubs are doing well, and there is not that many of them, the media has a big push of "this will be the year the Cubs make the World Series". Not just in Chicago either, it's everywhere.they've been talking that for a month already.

And then what happens? The Cubs take a big dump into 3rd, 4th, 5th place. The past couple of years the Cubs have had a hard time against both Milw. and St. Louis. I'm pulling for the Cubs tonight, but not that comfortable putting my money on them due to past years performance. None the less- GO CUBS!!

I agree on the "crime Dog" analysis though. He needs to pick it up. I seen him watch strike three go by him a few times since becomming a Cub. Stairs and Coomer are a surprise lift this year. They seem to come through in big situations thus far.

I think this game is too close to call. If I had to choose a side, I would go with the Astros. Hard to shut that offense down in successive games. Berkman, Alou, Castilla were all hitless last night. The worst part of betting Houston games is their atrocious bull pen. Tough to call. Good luck.

Yes Mickster the past has shown big problems for the Cubs. I think the thing that seperates them from the past cubs teams is there pitching is one of the best top to bottom. I think that alone will get them to at least the playoffs and even maybe a division winner.
