Falcons at Eagles
Two playoff caliber teams. Sloppy game with 26 penalties! Weather delay probably gave Philly a small edge but at the end, the Falcons had same chance to win as they did in the playoff game last year and we saw the same result. Sarkisian's play calling in the redzone is questionable at best, where is Julio??? He's the best player on the field! Do you really take Foles out when Wentz is healthy? Philly at TB next and a divisional showdown for the Falcons hosting Panthers in week 2, must win?
Redskins at Cardinals
Skins impressive on defense holding stud RB Johnson to a little bit of nothing and prolific passer Bradford to 20-34 for 153 0 tds and a pick. Skins with 182 rushing yds which equates to a rested defense, always a good thing and did it on the road vs a team that was 6th vs the run last year. AP looked great (most rush yds 96 and rec yds 70 on team), Thompson a top 3rd down back and Smith is just a solid veteran who makes good decisions. Can the Skins make noise in the east? Colts up next for Washington at home and Cards head to LA to play the Rams :0corn
Bills at Ravens
Thought the Bills would be bad, maybe 4 wins but they may not even get 4. Have to question the coaching staff who somehow still have faith in Peterman who went 5-18 for 24 yds and 2 ints. Do you miss Tyrod yet? Drafting Jackson may actually help Flacco who went 25-34 236 yds and 3 tds. AFC North looks to be a tough division, can the Ravens win it this year? Showdown next wee at Cincy for Baltimore, Bills host Rivers and the Chargers in a west to east game next week, will it even matter?
Steelers at Browns
Rare tie, should there really be ties in pro football? Better question is did either team really deserve the win here? Give Browns credit coming from down 14 late to force O.T., they managed 177 yds on the ground with Tyrod leading the way with 77 yds and a td. Taylor did get sacked 7 times and some are calling for Mayfield already but not sure I agree...yet. Ben threw 3 ints and got sacked 4 times. Conner was impressive with 135 yds and 2 tds also had 3 catches for 60 yds so no Bell didn't really matter. Do they now just let Bell sit all year? Steelers home vs Chiefs next, Browns at Saints week 2.
Bengals at Colts
Luck is back and threw 53 passes, won't win many games throwing 50+ passes. That being said they had a chance to win at the end but a costly fumble after a big pick up ended that hope. Mixon with a nice game for Cincy in year #2, 95 yds rushing and a td plus 5 rec for 54 yds. AJ was AJ 6-92 and td. Cincy defense played well up front allowing just 75 yds on the ground, sacking Luck twice and the key fumble recovery for the game clinching td. Up next is a Thursday night game vs the Ravens for Cincy, Colts go on the road to face Washington.
Titans at Dolphins
Another weather delayed game in Miami, probably gives the home team a slight edge. Titans with two big injuries to Mariota and Walker (done for season). Starting to think Mariota isn't a very good NFL qb, he was 9-16 103 yds and 2 ints before leaving. Dion Lewis looks like a good pick up for Ten, over 100 all purpose yds and a score. Tannehill returned and played decent 20-28 230 yds 2 tds but 2 ints too, he hit Stills on a couple big plays for tds. Miami didn't record a sack on defense but there special teams showed up big when Grant took a kick off back 102 yds. Titans host division rival Texans in week 2, Phins at division foe Jets.
49ers at Vikings
Two quality teams. Mistake filled football for SanFran against a great Vikings defense (3 int's, fum rec, and 3 sacks) didn't help there cause. Goodwin, Jimmy G's top target left and didn't return. Garoppolo struggled throwing 3 ints and his receivers dropped some easy throws. Bright spot was Kittle hauling in 5 catches for 90 yds for SF. Cousins debut was good for Minny, he threw 2 tds and managed the game the way we thought he would favoring Thieland as his top target 6 catches 102 yds. 49ers host Lions next week, haven't lost to Detroit since 1975 (12 straight wins) while the Vikings have a date with GB, maybe without Rodgers?
Texans at Patriots
This is still the Pats division to lose. Brady is Brady 3 tds and a pick. Gronk looked unstoppable 7-123 yds and td. Pats did lose Hill for the year....next man up! Pats account for lack of running game with Brady's efficient short pass game. Pats defense is a bend don't break D and didn't seem to miss Patricia a whole lot. Watson didn't look like the Watson we saw early last year before the injury, the next RG3? Nice to see JJ Watt back on the field, good guy and I hope he stays healthy and has a great season for Houston. Texans at Ten next while the Pats visit Jacksonville for a AFC championship rematch.
Bucs at Saints
Shocker of the week. Where was the Saints defense? Fitz goes 21-28 417 yds and 4 tds! Hope you had him in your fantasy line up :mj07:. The biggest play may have been when the Saints had closed the lead to 8 and forced a 3rd and long, Fitz ran for the 1st and sealed the deal, pretty sure we have a QB controversy in Tampa now. Evans and Djax both go over 100 yds and 1/2 tds respectively. Brees and Kamara carried the load on offense with Brees throwing for 439 and 3 tds while Kamara scored 3 times. Thomas with a big day totaling 180 yds and td. Bucs host the Eagles Sundaywhile the Saints look to get back on track vs the Browns.
Jaguars at Giants
Defense is still a strong point for the Jags. They sacked Eli twice, picked him once for a score and had allowed nothing on the ground until Barkley busted one for 68 yds. Odell had 11 catches for 111 yds but didn't score. Bortles managed the game and even scrambled a couple times, once for 41 yds. Fournette injury is a little concerning for Jax but Yeldon a decent fill in. Giants had a chance at the end but muffed a punt and the kneal down closed out the opener for both teams. This one had to feel good for Coughlin. Jags get the Pats Sunday at home while the Giants travel to Dallas for Sunday night football.
Chiefs at Chargers
This was a Tyreek Hill Pat Mahomes show. Hill returned a punt 91 yds less than 2 minutes into the game to get the scoring going, he would add 2 more receiving tds in the game and 169 yds. Mahomes certainly didn't play like a rookie tossing 4 tds and adding 256 yds threw the air, most importantly he didn't throw any ints. Not having Bosa on the defensive side of the ball surely didn't help the Chargers. Rivers did what he usually does, 424 yds and 3 tds while Melvin Gordon totaled 166 all purpose yds. Chiefs face the Steelers on the road next week in a B2B road situation. Chargers travel west to east to face the Bills.
Cowboys at Panthers
Defensive battle. Cowboys defense sacked Cam 3 times and held him to just 161 yds through the air with no tds but ultimately Cam used his feet and found the end zone. Kuechly left the game but returned after an injury however Olsen was injured and didn't return and more importantly ALL Pro RT Williams got carted off the field. Cowboys looked very 1 dimensional. With no real threat at WR teams will stack the box to contain Zeke (69 yds and a td) and make Dak beat them. Can he? 19-29 170 yds and was sacked 6 times. One injury concern for Dallas as DE Gregory left game with concussion. Sunday night football for Zeke and company, Panthers visit the Falcons who are extra rested after the Thursday night opener.
Seahawks at Broncos
Could be a long season for Seattle. Miller sacked Wilson 3 times, forced 2 fumbles and recovered one. Wilson still managed to throw for 298 yds and 3 tds but tossed 2 picks and only scrambled for 5 total yds. Seahawks were 2-12 on 3rd downs and it looks Baldwin may miss time. Keenum's debut in Denver was o.k., he went for 329 yds 3 tds but 3 int's , gotta get better there. A nice balanced running game for Denver with Lindsay and Freeman both totaling 71 yds. Sanders seems to be Keenums target of choice grabbing 10 of 11 targets for 135 yds and a td. Broncos host the Raiders on a short week in the altitude and the Seahawks travel to Chicago in week 2.
Bears at Packers
Bears led 20-0 and had knocked Rodgers out of the game, everything was going there way until the great one came back. Rodgers went 17-23 273 yds 3 tds after his return and led an epic comeback. Newly acquired Mack made his impact with a pick 6 but it wasn't enough. Bears look like they some pieces in place to compete but for now this is a GB and Minny division. Packers home vs Vikings next, will Rodgers play? Bears host the Seahawks.
Jets at Lions
New coach Patricia thought his defensive impact was going to stand out right away when Darnold threw the opening pass for a pick 6. It was all down hill from there for Detroit. Stafford threw 4 ints and may have been injured worse than we thought early in the game. The Jets rush defense was stellar allowing just 39 yds on the ground. Darnold composed himself after the 1st throw mistake and went 16-21 for 198 yds and 2 tds. Crowell and Powell combined for 162 yds rushing with Crowell finding the endzone twice. Jets get Miami at home in week 2, could they start 2-0??? Lions travel to SF on a short week.
Rams at Raiders
Goff not taking a snap in preseason didn't seem to matter, he went 18-33 233 yds and 2 tds. Gurley went over 100 yds rushing and added 39 through the air including a score. Rams defense picked Carr 3 times including the final one for a pick 6. Carr did go over 300 yds passing but failed to throw for a td. Bright spot for Oakland was TE Cook who hauled in 9 catches for 180 yds. What has happened to A Cooper? 1 catch for 9 yds! Gruden better get things turned around because that was ugly. To be fair the Rams are the cream of the crop in the NFC and probably the NFl in general but he may already be regretting leaving that cushy MNF gig. Rams home vs Cards week 2, Raiders at Denver on short week.
