RE: MIA/LAC I'm not seeing the addition of Jim Jackson for the Heat as much of a threat to the Clipps this evening.

When last I heard, he was at his best a 15 point per game contributor and he hasn't played in an NBA contest this season.

Add to that the Clipps issuing a 30+ point drubbing to previous home foe, and the fact that Jackson can only be hampered by having to play this game with the rest of the members of this years edition of the Miami Heat and I don't see LAC -6.5 as that bad of a spread.

Agree?
Disagree?
Am I missing anything important here?

If you have time to respond, I'd really appreciate it. If you don't, I'll just look forward to your picks.

I do have opinions on both games and will get to them as soon as I can but first....

Detroit @ Cleveland +4.5 / 190

I have seen several people already mentioning this
game, but it is a bit shaky. Trend players should be
all over the pistons in this one as the trends heavily
side with Detroit.

I always thought the Pistons were a bit over rated in
the early going as they just were beating up on sorry
teams, however not only have they played well against
some decent teams, they have done it on the road
posting outright victories at Charlotte, New York, and
Orlando. Then it should be no suprise as they have
played well on the road all year posting an ATS mark
of 8-1, with the only loss coming to Atlanta.

Cleveland has played well of late has they have won
four out of six straight up and ATS. They also had an
impressive win against the hornets last game as they
won outright as a 3 pont dog, however in the past this
has been a problem for them. In fact when they cover
the line by at least ten points in their previous game
they are just 2-9 su, and 1-10 ats. It gets worse.
Cleveland is only 2-9 su, and 2-8-1 against the number
as an underdog after a straight up win. And after a
win as a home underdog, yet they are still underdogs
in the next game? You guessed it, more bad news, they
are a woeful 0-10 su, and ats. In fact the last three
years, the cavs come off an upset win they are just
10-23 ats, last five years 18-38. I told you trend
players would love the pistons.

However there is another side to this coin. The
pistons are also coming off an impressive win in the
garden and are playing the last game on the road
before they go home to the palace.
Breaking the trends down on detroit also reveals some ugliness and in the same category as the cavs. The pistons coming off of an upset win are just 11-15 in the last three years, and in the last five they are 19-31. Also the head to head numbers have a bit of intrest to them as well. The Cavs are 10-9 su against the pistons since '96, and when the play in Cleveland that number jumps to 7-3 straight up, which is all you would need to get the money tonight.

Finally the Cavs get the services of Zydrunas Ilgauskas tonight, and this seven footer will be just what the doctor ordered for the cavs usually I will go against a team on the first night they get a returning player, but I don't think "Z" will have as much of an impact on the scoreboard as he does in the rebounding department. In the last four matchups between these two teams dating back to last year, the cavs have tied or outrebounded the pistons every game. Rebounding has been key for the pistons this year, when they get beat on the boards they often lose the game, and the first game against the hornets was a perfect example as they were outrebounded 45-18, and although the final score was not a good indicator of the game, the pistons lost 104-96.

The cavs should win in the board department and this game.

Making money ain't nothing exciting to me. You might be able to buy a little better booze than the wino on the corner. But you get sick just like the next cat and when you die you're just as graveyard dead.

playsccr,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. i think the spurs cover would be much more attractive if Jordan was playing. The spurs were looking forward to playing against Jordan, and are a bit dissapointed that he is not in the lineup, and so are the fans. I wanted my boys to see me play against Michael," David Robinson said, "and block his shot once or twice."Tonight's crowd would have been the largest to watch Jordan this season.

The Spurs will not offer refunds or rain checks for the game, said Russ Bookbinder, the team's executive vice president of business operations.

"We're all disappointed he's not going to play, but unfortunately, injuries are a part of sports," Bookbinder said. "These things happen. We've had our players get hurt and not be able to play on the road.

"The one thing we're trying to tell our fans is they're still going to see four All-Stars on our team. They'll still get a good night of entertainment."

But while the Spurs still have another opportunity to face Jordan on Jan. 15 in Washington, some of the players were looking forward to playing him tonight. Terry Porter had bought extra tickets to the game for family and friends.

"Michael has that special magic that just makes the game exciting," Robinson said. "He really takes it to another level. With that type of competition, that type of intensity, you learn something new whenever you step on the court with him."

I think the play may be (beertime, RC?) the spurs in the first half. The spurs will have a huge crowd and have done well in the first half for the better part of a year, but I do think the back door cover will come into play tonight. With jordan not playing and providing the spurs have a comfortable lead at half the crowd will become less of a factor late in the game. Jordan is replaced in the lineup with first rounder Kwame Brown, which should give them the size they need in the lineup to match up with Robinson and Duncan. Also all the wizards hear about is Jordan and tonight they get a chance they can play without him, and against a very good team. I look for Rip Hamilton, to try to carrry the load scoring and Whitney to lend a hand. If those two are hitting it will cause the spurs to help outside leaving the youngsters down low the chance at some shots, to keep this close. Do I think the wizards win this game, No. But I do think they keep it under ten.

JT is right on... only way I'm on the SPURS is the FH. Maybe the 2H if by some miracle the WIZ KIDZ stay close, but I think SA will be up by double digits easily by HT. Who are the WIZARDS without MIKE??? I don't know, and neither do they! They'll struggle mightily early without their leader, and after HT will make some adjustments and probably play about even in a street ball type game. Myself, I like the SPURS in the fh.

SPURS -8 FH
