Watching Chi/NY and NJ/Orl and it looks to me that this league has some serious credibility issues. All four teams are basically playing horse and they make no effort at even hiding their carefree defensive attitude. No wonder the NBA is light years behind college basketball in having an interesting product. TV and marketing don't help matters by promoting individuals, not teams. If I didn't bet this league you couldn't pay me to watch this crap.

Watching Port/mem play tonight as well as Bos/Mia last. Couldn't agree more. Ugly especially from teams in the hunt. 
How's this for a bad beat(s)? I had under in both those games; both games were under the total.....after 48 minutes. But both go into overtime. Only 2 NBA bets tonight. I must've jinxed myself for ripping these teams; they got their revenge on me.

Let me ask you this: In what other country do people put so much emphasis on an inferior game as they do in the United States on college football and basketball? You don't see Canadians obsessing over the OHL Championship. You don't see the English working themselves into a lather for the First Division championship (Premier League is the top league in England for those of you that don't know).
College basketball is basically a minor league. The skill level just isn't there. And to make it worse, any college age player with any real skills is in the NBA right now where they should be.
College players play about 30 regular season games. Whoop-dee-doo. I would bet most of us that play recreationally do 30 games or more every 2 or 3 months, not every year. You cannot expect to play super intense defense over an 82 game season. Part of what makes the NBA *great* is that the teams that come to play every night with intensity and the teams that are talented but can only turn it on once or twice a week (like college players do) sit home in May and June.
Bottom line is that if you are a fan of college basketball or football, you are a fan of an inferior product. I can understand the attraction, especially to those people who have a local favorite or an alma mater, but don't try to tell me that there is any kind of quality associated with NCAA hoops or football.

The ncaa final was an ugly game, one of the worst. You can put on the NBA any night and find just as poorly played games, playoff teams included, from these pro's., especially in the last month. in the last month. Celts/Mia last night rather pull my teeth w/plyers. Port tonight , 2 weeks ago against same team. Any Knick game you want. All equally ugly.

yeah have to agree with nick...nba is the the best quality of the best sport in the world imo. college really doesnt come close to the nba as far as quality is concerned...now i enjoy college bball a lot but the nba is just so much more refined and enjoyable if you understand the way the game should be played. this is the worst time for the nba because you can never tell which guys care and which guys are waiting to tee off on the golf course this summer but once the playoffs start you'll see the best basketball in the world.
can't compare talent, just frustrating when pro's don't show up or play poorly mentally. You expect more because they are pro's that's why it is a bitter pill to swallow when you see some of these pathetic performances lately. thoroughly enjoy the playoffs and madness equally.
Look at Houston tonight.......They have lost 4 in a row, by 18 to memphis, lost at hm to SA by 30 something, only have won 2 of the last 13.........then they come from 20 points down to beat Dallas, who should have been looking at tonight as a playoff game since a loss drops them to 4th instead of 2nd seed...........IF ANYONE CAN FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT LET ME KNOW................ALSO DETROIT LOSING TO THE BULLS LAST NIGHT......

Its more than the quality of play; its the effort. Watching the Chicago/New York game was sickening; one of the worst displays I've seen in watching over 30 years of sports. New York is a pathetic team who is stealing money from their fans. Its amazing how recently this team played good defense. The Bulls have an excuse; the talented players they have are 19 years old and the rest of the team, except Rose, basically is talentless. They were playing on no rest and hustling while the thieves from NY were just stealing money. I had a total play on the game but had to turn to the Braves/Phillies game, which I had no wager on, just to avoid getting sick watching those overpaid bastards. And to make things worse, all the NBA does is market its individuals. Their marketing didn't cause their rise in popularity; it was 3 guys named Magic, Bird and Jordan. Basketball is still a team sport, and say what you want about one individual game between Maryland and Indiana, but at the college level at least they realize it is.

Here's my 2 cents. I can understand Nicks point but the issue at hand is not which league(s) has more talent(obviously the pros willl win each and every time), but which sport is MORE entertaining. Personally, I enjoy watching the kids play with all their heart and intensity way much more than overpaid athletes with tons of talent who waste it night and night out by being more interested in which honey they're going to take home afterwards instead of winning the damn game.
Would I rather spend $30 to attend and watch a college game or blow $75 to watch a "who gives a shit attitude" NBA game.
I'll take the better game and blow the extra $45 on booze and enjoy the game any day...

nba is just a bunch of big brutes beating on each other nowadays....the refs have completely lost control on the game.....it all started in the late 80's as they let the pistons get away with stuff that had never been gotten away with before......Pat Riley cried loudly.....soon after, the Riley led Knicks adopted an even tougher style......again, the refs let it get away....

The problem I have with college is the complete lack of fundamental basketball intelligence which leads to the poor quality of play.

Complete lack of dribbling, screening and finishing fundamentals? Missed free throws at the end that make games artificially competitive?
College basketball has one huge advantage and that is the arena atmosphere. Same goes for football. The sad fact is that the NFL and NBA (and NHL, for that matter) have priced themselves out of the true fans' tax bracket. The result is that those who can afford to go have to have high salaries, and it only stands to reason that the time and effort needed at work to make a higher salary results in less time devoted to following sports, and therefore less passionate a fan at the games.
If your entertainment watching a game is derived from a loud crowd, then fine, college sports are more entertaining. If entertainment comes from anything having to do with the play on the court, then the NBA wins every time.
And please, no more responses about this team or that putting out a subpar effort. Give me a f'n break. Like college players put out a 100% defensive effort every time out. I am sure those of you who play in rec leagues can remember your team putting on a subpar effort sometimes. It is human nature. The crowd does have a lot to do with it. I used to go to a couple Bulls games a year back in the late 70s when tickets were reasonable and Chicago Stadium would rock and roll. The crowd was totally into it. I finally went to a game again in '94, the year Jordan sat out but the Bulls made it to the East finals vs NY. I couldn't believe what I saw; it seemed like nobody in the crowd was into the game. They'd watch the M & M race or the baby race or the guys shooting T-shirts into the crowd. I remember seeing guys come in at the start of the 2nd quarter, talk on their cell phones for an hour, then leave at the start of the 4th quarter. I think most of the crowd had no idea what was going on on the court.
I will bring up New York again because their effort was deplorable last night. How they ever could re-hire that coach is beyond comprehension. At least Van Gundy could motivate them to play defense. Its a country club there; just score and then stand around and watch on the other end. Vegas knows it too; the first time those two teams met at MSG the total was 171.5; last night it was 198. I've never seen that big a differential in a season series. Pros who dog it like NY does should be booed off the court. They are stealing $$ from the public.

I think it's fun trying to figure out which teams are gonna tank on a particular night. There was a time when I would never watch an NBA regular season game. Wagering forced me to watch, and now I really like it. I even get a kick out of the ugly games just to see how ugly it can get.
