(1) Cleveland Cavaliers (3-0) at (4) Atlanta Hawks (0-3), 7 p.m.

The Cleveland Cavaliers may want to think about a trip to Sam's Club in order to stock up on brooms.

The Cavs are on the verge of their second straight postseason series sweep as they get ready for Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals set against the overmatched Atlanta Hawks tonight.

The incomparable LeBron James poured in 47 points on Saturday as the Cavs shoved Atlanta to the brink of elimination with a 97-82 win.

James made half of his 10 three-point shots and also had 12 rebounds and eight assists. The league MVP finished just a point off his playoff career-best, set May 31, 2007 against the Pistons, and has scored 108 points in 108 minutes in this series, an incredibly efficient performance.

"When it's all said and done, and you think back on this game, there's three things that stand out," said Cavs coach Mike Brown. "It's our poise we kept throughout the game when they went on runs, the way we defended in the second half, and what an MVP-performance by LeBron James. We kind of threw our offense out of the window in the second half and said 'hey big fella take us home' and he did."

Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers, while Delonte West tallied 12 points and Mo Williams 11 in the victory.

The Cavs have yet to lose in this year's playoffs, sweeping Detroit in the first round. Their seventh straight postseason win on Saturday also set a franchise record and all seven of those victories have come by double digits, which sets an NBA record, surpassing the 2004 Indiana Pacers.

"The important thing is we want to play well," said James. "We play well, we execute our game plan, give ourselves a good chance to win on Monday, if we do that and lose we can be satisfied with that. We don't want to do go down, lose not executing our game plan and not play the way we're capable of playing. We look forward to the challenge again on Monday."

Joe Johnson, who was a game-time decision following a sprained right ankle he suffered in Game 2's 105-85 loss, started and led the Hawks with 21 points. Josh Smith added 18 points, and Flip Murray scored 17.

"We did all we could, but I don't think we did enough in the second half in order to win," said Smith. "We have to play with a sense of urgency on Monday."

Forwards Al Horford and Marvin Williams also played for Atlanta despite injuries. Horford, who has been dealing with a sprained right ankle, started and was limited to six points. Williams, who has been bothered by a sprained right wrist, scored four in a reserve role.

Atlanta is clinging to the hope its home court can turn things around in the series. The Cavaliers went 39-2 as the host during the regular season and are now 43-2 at the "Q" this year, including the playoffs. On the road, Brown's team has been more mortal, compiling a 30-14 record as the visitor, including a pair of wins in Auburn Hills during the quarterfinals and the Game 3 win at Philips Arena on Saturday.

No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series in NBA history, however.

The two teams have never met in the playoffs before.

If necessary, Game 5 of the best-of-seven series will be back in Cleveland on Wednesday.

ATLANTA (AP) - When LeBron James has one of those nights, everyone else turns into fans.

His teammates? Yep. Even his coach.

``I try as much as possible,' Cleveland's Mike Brown said Sunday, ``to stay out of the way.'

With one of his best performances ever, James carried the Cavaliers to the brink of another playoff sweep. The Atlanta Hawks sure know what they're up against, having watched their most inspired showing of the series turned into just another loss by the MVP's 47 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

``Right now, he's playing at such a high level,' said Hawks coach Mike Woodson, sounding a bit disheartened as his team heads into Game 4 Monday night. ``Man, it's crazy how good he's playing. It really is.'

James has that look Michael Jordan used to bring out at playoff time, a steely eyed determination to win a championship no matter what's in the way. If that means taking every big shot, so be it. If that means turning the game into me against them, well, that's the way it has to be.

James has played 108 minutes in this series - and scored 108 points.

As Brown said, stay out of the way.

``He is making so many special plays,' teammate Mo Williams said, meeting with the media on a patio at the team's luxury hotel on warm, sunny off day. ``We just try to give him some space.'

While James' performance in a 97-82 victory Saturday night didn't quite reach the level of his 48-point effort against Detroit in the 2007 Eastern Conference finals - that was the one where he scored his team's last 25 points in a double-overtime victory, on the way to Cleveland's first appearance in the NBA championship series - it certainly ranked in the top five.

James made 15 of 25 shots, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range. He drew one foul after another, going 12 of 16 at the free-throw line (compared with Atlanta's 7-of-11 showing as a team). He led all rebounders with 12, leading the Cavaliers to a mammoth 46-23 edge on the boards. On those rare occasions when he couldn't create a shot of his own, he dished out eight assists. He also had a steal, as well as a blocked shot.

It sure looked like fun.

``I'm always having fun,' James said. ``I love the game with a passion.'

Amazingly for someone who had the ball in his hands so much, he turned it over all of one time.

``Our guys did the best they could to guard him,' Atlanta's Flip Murray said. ``But when you're hitting shots like that, it's hard for anyone to guard.'

Murray is a former teammate, but this isn't the King James he remembers.

``He's matured a lot since I was there with him. He's more vocal. He's the leader of their team,' Murray said. ``He's definitely matured into the superstar he is today.'

The Hawks tried to guard James with two or three players, but it really didn't matter. Once he pulled up at the top of the key, a good five feet shy of the 3-point line, and hoisted a shot before Atlanta even had time to react.

Swish.

A couple of times, he dribbled past all five players on the home team, weaving this way and that as though he were a catch-me-if-you-can point guard - not a 6-foot-8, 250-pounder. The result was the same.

Swish.

``When he's really got it going,' Williams said, ``it doesn't matter how many players are on him.'

While Brown complained that his team was a bit stagnant offensively, it was certainly easy to understand the way James was playing. After the Hawks went on a 13-0 run that gave them their first second-half lead of the series, the Cavaliers turned to their star to bale them out.

Boy, did he ever.

James scored five points in a 10-2 spurt that closed the third, sending Cleveland to the final period with a still tenuous 72-65 lead. Not to worry. He skipped his usual break at the start of the fourth and turned the quarter into his personal showcase, scoring 13 of Cleveland's final 25 points before he left with 44 seconds remaining to chants of ``MVP! MVP! MVP!' from what was left of the sellout crowd.

``I knew how important this game was,' James said. ``I didn't want the momentum to shift again. I asked coach to leave me in, so he left me in, and we did what we had to do to win the game.'

Added Brown, ``I knew we were not really running anything out there. But whatever we were doing, it was working, so we just let it go.'

The Cavaliers have yet to be seriously challenged in this postseason, setting an NBA record with seven straight double-digit victories. The Hawks know they have little chance of winning this series. At this point, they'd be satisfied with a 48-minute effort.

``They came out and hit us, and we just backed down,' Atlanta star Joe Johnson said. ``There's no way you can tell us this team is 20 to 30 points better than we are. It's not possible.'

(2) Denver Nuggets (3-0) at (6) Dallas Mavericks (0-3), 9:30 p.m.

The Dallas Mavericks were a hair away from getting back into their Western Conference semifinals series with the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.

Now, they are a hair away from elimination.

Carmelo Anthony drained a game-winning three- pointer with one second left in a controversial finish, helping the Nuggets steal Game 3 against Dallas, 106-105, at American Airlines Center and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the set.

Anthony, who was just 9-of-24 from the field, recorded a dunk with 28.5 seconds left to cut Denver's deficit to 105-103. Dirk Nowitzki, who logged game-highs of 33 points and 16 rebounds for the Mavs, was short on a turnaround in the lane and Denver corralled the rebound before calling timeout with 6.5 ticks left.

Anthony mishandled the inbounds pass but recovered and, despite taking a bump from Antoine Wright before rising for the shot, hit an off-balanced three from the right wing with just one second showing.

The Mavericks were irate about the lack of a foul call, considering they had a foul to give, and displayed their emotions to the officials after Nowitzki's last-ditch heave from behind the three-point line fell well off the mark.

"I was positive a whistle was coming, just like everybody else was positive the whistle was coming and the only reason why it didn't come sooner is because [Anthony] lost the ball," said Wright, recalling Denver's last possession. "I tried to hit him before he got into the shooting motion, I felt like I did, and the whistle wasn't blowing."

Hours after the game, the NBA agreed with Wright, issuing the following statement:

"At the end of the Dallas-Denver game this evening (Saturday), the officials missed an intentional foul committed by Antoine Wright on Carmelo Anthony, just prior to Anthony's three-point basket," stated Joel Litvin, president of league and basketball operations.

Anthony finished with 31 points and eight rebounds, while Chauncey Billups posted 32 points for Denver, which had won the first two games of the series at home by double digits.

Jason Terry and Brandon Bass helped the Mavericks off the bench, logging 17 and 16 points, respectively, but it wasn't enough, as the Mavs lost their seventh straight affair against Denver this season.

No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series in NBA history.

"We don't play a lot of mind games with the playoffs," Nuggets head coach George Karl said. "We respect that the playoffs are tough...I don't think we have played our best basketball in this series. We have played winning basketball, but I don't think we have played polished basketball."

The Mavs have played well at times in this series but haven't been able to put together a 48-minute effort, falling apart in the fourth quarter during both contests in Denver and faltering in the waning seconds of Game 3. Similarly, while the Nuggets did dominate the win column in their series with Dallas in the regular season, most of the games were very close. Denver beat the Mavs by three, 10, two and two points in the four contests.

The teams have met just one time in the postseason, a 4-2 Dallas win in the West semis in 1988.

Game 5 of the best-of-seven series will be back in Denver on Wednesday if necessary.

Preview: Nuggets (54-28) at Mavericks (50-32)

Date: May 11, 2009 9:30 PM EDT

DALLAS (AP) - Still grumpy about how Game 3 finished, and groggy from the practically sleepless night that followed, the Dallas Mavericks got together Sunday to watch some film.

Guess what clip coach Rick Carlisle didn't show?

Hint: It's one the league isn't proud of, either.

As much as they don't want to see the play, it's one they'll all remember: Antoine Wright bumping Carmelo Anthony in an obvious attempt to draw a foul, then bumping him again, yet failing to get rung up either time at the end of a game during which the officials had no trouble blowing their whistles. Anthony wound up swishing a 3-pointer with 1 second left, taking the Denver Nuggets from two points down to one point ahead and a commanding 3-0 lead in this second-round series.

``We're not going to get that last play back, so just by watching it doesn't do us any good,' Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki said.

Nowitzki and his teammates admittedly had trouble letting go of what happened. The difference in being down 2-1 and 3-0 is a big part of it, but so is the fact that two hours after the game ended NBA president Joel Litvin essentially said, ``Oops,' acknowledging that a foul should've been called.

``If I was the league, I wouldn't say that,' Nowitzki said. ``I don't think it makes anybody feel better. We don't get the last seven seconds back to kind of play it over again. More than anything, I think it made it worse.'

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Sunday that the league was still reviewing the postgame scene on the court, when Dallas' Josh Howard and team owner Mark Cuban were among those visibly upset.

The Mavericks are in enough trouble already. No NBA team has overcome a 3-0 deficit and they're unlikely to be the first considering they're also 0-7 against the Nuggets this season. Denver also is the only team to win in Dallas since mid-February and the Nuggets have done it twice.

So perhaps the question going into Game 4 on Monday night isn't whether Denver will be headed to the conference finals for the first time since 1985, but ``When?'

Although the Nuggets have seen their margin of victory dip from 14 points to 12 to one, the key, of course, is that they're still winning.

In fact, knowing that Dallas has gotten closer each game should help keep Denver players from taking anything for granted.

``We're going to be aggressive and we're going to fight extremely hard,' said Chauncey Billups, the veteran point guard who is likely doing all he can to remind his younger teammates that this series isn't over. ``They're facing elimination. That's always the toughest game to win, especially in a sweep situation. They're going to fight really hard and do everything they can possibly do to keep their season alive.'

With the non-call still a hot topic, Billups brought up a point that could get overlooked: ``People fail to realize that you still have to make a tough shot. It was an unbelievable shot that Melo hit. So no matter what happens, that was an unbelievable shot.'

Denver coach George Karl said he would not have gone for a foul in that situation.

``It's a very difficult play for the defender to make,' he said. ``You don't know how hard to hit him. You don't know if the shooter is going to go up and take a 3. If we are going to take the foul, we definitely tell the referees. We try to tell all three of the referees. And then usually the defense is front of us at the end of the game, we yell ``foul, foul, foul.'

The Mavericks spent Sunday still crying foul, all right. But Nowitzki vowed that by a shootaround Monday morning ``everybody's spirits are going to be up.'

It's worth noting that Dallas has never been swept in a four-game series. And, this season, the Mavs have bounced back every time they've been counted out.

``These guys have met adversity with unity, with a collective will,' Carlisle said. ``It happened in November; we got off to a 2-7 start. It happened in January; we lost four games in a row and everybody said we wouldn't be a playoff team. It happened after we lost to Oklahoma City ... and it's obviously going to happen now. But, hey, that's what this is about. When it gets tough, you've got to stick together and keep fighting.'
