GEM OF THE DAY 22-18-1
This Week 3-3 (only 1 losing week this season so need this one)
Last Play: Win Buffalo -4 Saturday
NCAA GEM OF THE DAY: Washington St +8.5

ASU is all about defense, Washington St is all about offense. The statistical difference in this game is staggering and it boils down to 1 thing = who controls the pace?

ASU does not have outstanding scoring, their guards are short 6'1, 6'2,6'3, 6'4, their lone prescence inside Duke transfer Eric Boateng has a whopping 12 pts in his last 3 games.

Washington St comes into this game 2-2 on the road, their 2 losses vs above average teams Kstate and Zaga, their last win a last second buzzer beater over Arizona. Their guards are taller, their inside prescence is a couple inches shorter than Boateng but is one of their top scorers and is more athletic, as long as he can stay on the floor.

Washington St's problem has been closing out games, their defense gets lax in the 2nd half, but after the Arizona game I'm looking for a more concentrated effort against a team they have not lost to since the conference tourney of 2006 and only 2x in the past 10 meetings. Asking AZ state to win by 9 on their home floor is quite a task, so if AZ State controls the pace, the scoring prowness of Washington St should keep this within the number.

Other plays:

Wash -2
Kansas -5
Pacific -1.5
SD -3.5
STM -13
Oregon -8
UNC -7.5

NBA: Cavs -5.5
NFL: Raves +4, Ravens U44, GB O48
sprinkle a little on Raves -3.5 +220, Raves -7.5 +450

Cival War Part II

Cival War Part II

Like if have said in the past this is from another capper from another site
just sharing BOL!!!

Heading 40 miles down OR Hwy 99W in 37 minutes to watch Alma-Mater, Oregon State Beavers vs Oregon Ducks. Bittersweet Final Time to see a Civil War in the Oldest On-Campus Venue West of the Mississippi, before The Ducks gladly move into thier State-Of-The-Art, glistening 'Philip K Knight Pavilion' a few Blocks down the street.

I WILL NOT miss trudging thru a Pitch-Dark Graveyard across the street from Mac Court to search for our Vehicle (not making that up), or holding our breath while Center Court hanging scoreboard begins swinging when 'Pit Crew' stomps in unison - while student grandstand heaves up and down at LEAST a foot with it, ect.

Too many memories to count or detail...

OSU's Bill McShane's winning corner 'J',
Gary Payton v Terrell Brandon EPIC face-offs
Scott Haskin's reverse lay-in, that bounced on every corner of rim before dropping at Buzzer in late 80's, jumping on rim exactly ONE DOZEN times, (w/Pit Crew's Balcony-Guide-Wire-Antics assisting/inducing most of the rim-action)
Haskin FOLLOWING Yr, perfectly-timed, follow dunk - of a back-rim. missed Alan Celestine FT, w/Beavers Down-1, at 0.01, Yet HASKIN somehow back-rim-clanking the dunk.
Yada, Yada, and a lotta Yada...
Made 25 Consecutive Civil War Pit Ventures - yet the Last 15 have been fruitless for Beavers

On to Gm.

As Posted Wed Night, Beavers are coming off the most INFERIOR EFFORT I've seen in all my years of attending College Basketball Games: 51 PT LOSS to Seattle U. From Wed Post\Rant I dropped in while disgusted from Gm just concluded:

I just witnessed something just - for lack of a better word....R e T a r d E d. 500+ College Basketball Games witnessed\attended.... the game I just viewed was, without question, the most shockingly egregious, downright disgraceful, HOME TEAM performance I have ever lived thru. Preposterous. 'Rye-dik-you-luz' Coming In: |Seattle University (6-9) at Oregon State (6-7) | Seattle was fresh-off a 92-71 pasting at HOME vs Harvard, Seattle beat Oregon State in Gill Coliseum tonight....BY FIFTY-ONE POINTS | 99-48 | Coulda\shoulda been worse. Beavers out of their gm. Kept getting baited into Quick Shots And never stopped firing them up Instead of running deliberate offense. No Idea how Oregon St, at #337 of 347 Pace allowed this to happen ESP w/Seattle entering as #1-a PACE Tm

Plain and simple, Beavers at 7-2 ATS are deliberate and decent when they have Shaftenaar in game playing 'Point-Center' Spot, though he hasn't been playing, and has been seeing then bench more and more, as he isn't showing effort and tires very easily.

ORE ST MISSES ONE UNSUNG PLAYER more than I'd ever have imagined or understood - THE ONLY 09/10 DEPARTURE, RICKEY CLAITT

CLAITT WAS #1 IN OVERALL EFFICIENCY - IN ALL D-1 - FOR MORE THAN HALF SEASON LAST YEAR.

Ore St is very inconsistent and simply hasn't been able to be patient under pressure of Up-tempo teams - YET.

TONIGHT is Beavers' chance to do this - and AFTER WATCHING PRACTICES (2x), ORE ST IS MAKING CONCERTED EFFORT TO BE AS DELIBERATE AS EVER - Run Hybrid Princeton and 1/3/1 Full Ct Zone Def with 100% commitment:

ORE ST IS STILL #337 of 347 D-1 Tms IN TERMS OF TEMPO\PACE

Yet, Ore St is playing so poorly and Body-Language so solemn I do NOT think this will be close. What's more, ORE is playing lights out.

ARMSTEAD (5-10 / SO) Production & Minutes have surprised everyone - even ORE HC, E KENT ... whom calls him the 'Mac Court Magician'

ALSO ORE IS MUCH MORE DELIBERATE
Ore Pace: 69.2 Poss/Gm, or #145 of 347
(Only quickest 42%; way down from range they USED to play at, 72-77, or TOP 25 to 50 Tms)

KENT: Realization that Slower Pace is NORM in Conf, worked heavily on establishing Half-Court Presence
This has allowed M Dunigan to FLOURISH in Low-Block
Beavers have no Defensive answer for Dunigan - since only Beaver player w/GOOD skills on Back side of 1-3-1, Deane, is really Foul-Prone of late

Intangibles are on Ore Side in very dramatic way, too
FT: ORE 71.4% / ORST 68.9%
3-PT: 37.9% / ORST 28.8%
T-Ov Rate: Ore #63 D-1, ORST #335 D-1

What's changed for Beavers? Last Yr CBI Title gave Tm Players impression they were MUCH BETTER than they probably are....much same tm and players from 0-18 Tm from 07/08....and NO TRUE PG, Blue-Chip PG Recruit Cunningham took Nasty Fall vs Neb, which apparently frightened him (up in air, flipped back wards and was motionless for short time - a little gun-shy ever since), and 6-11 Catalyst, Ruland Shaftenaar's uninspired play and Coach Rob's open criticism of such (suffered Viral Infection and has been playing ball for Netherlands Jr Nat'l Tm last 3-Summers; very, very worn out from 40+ Mo of Ball, tired mentally and physically)

Oregon has vowed - over and over all week, in serious (not punkish) way, 'We will not allow ORE ST to win last Civil War at Pit - period'.

If more time, I could get much more into this - but headed to Eugene...Hoping for the best / Expecting the worst.

3 UNIT
OREGON STATE at OREGON -8*
