0-3 start to the week (yikes, thats a crack rat start to a week)

===============================
W
wake forest (-1) over boston college
*for some reason, wake is coming in a little under the radar here. it seems that with the additions of miami and vtech to the acc, people are forgetting about this deacon team. theyre not going to be challenging for the conference title, but they can give a lot of teams problems with their very formidable power-rushing attack. barclay and andrews are a damn tough duo to stop.

W
double play...toledo (-8) and (-6) over temple
*i know toledo is giving up a ton of yards and points up to this point in the season (which makes it tough to lay chalk) but they are one of elite home teams as far as midmajors go. theyre 25-1 in their last 26 at the glass bowl. and 8 of their L10 wins have been by 17 points or more. i think toledo's two subpar efforts in weeks 1 and 2 keep this line under double digits. they should rip temple. rockets have been averaging an obscene 38.4 ppg vs. in non-conf games at the glass bowl the L4 years (and worth noting that those games were vs cupcakes either --- unlv, minnesota, and pittsburgh are included in that average).

===============================
pending
northwestern (+15.5) over minnesota
*ive been very impressed with minnesota early on this season. their rushing game could very well be the best in the country. but their defense is really suspect and i think that is going to be what allows northwestern to stay within 2 touchdowns in this one. while the gopher offense is churning out impressive offense numbers, that defense is letting the opposition move up and down the field w/little resistance. colorado state proved to be inferior to minnesota, but they still had no problem establishing long drives on the minny defense. they just couldnt convert them into touchdowns, or they would self-destruct. minnesota is gonna score. theres no question about that. but i think that nw spread offense is going to match them on most possessions, ultimately preventing minny from ever pulling away
==============================
L
louisiana tech (+22.5) over tennessee
*vols have traditionally been poor in this kind of role. theyve been favored by 20+ points a handful of times vs. non.conf the last few years and been very unmotivated to cover the big numbers (and vs. some really bad opponents no less). to make it worse, tennessee in a big time sandwich here. theyre off an emotional, down-to-the-last-second win against florida, and theyre staring at auburn on deck next week. latech is at least a program thats not going to come in intimidated, and i think they hang a couple surprise scores on tennessee.

==============================
W
notre dame/washington under 49
*notre dame has been scoring points off turnovers and punt blocks and plays of that sort to begin the season. im just not convinced that if washington can take care of the football that the irish offense can generate more than 20 points. huskies of course need to cooperate and take care of the ball, but when its all said and done, i think this game lands around 22-14 or something like that. i would have played this one under 45. so 49 works for me.

==============================
W
florida/kentucky 1st half under 27
*i think the early start time will throw these teams off a little bit. pregame routine thrown out of whack, so maybe it takes both groups time to settle in. also, one thing ive learned with kentucky over the years is that when a shootout is expected, it never seems to happen with them. theyre capable of scoring a lot and letting up a lot, but they inexplicably grind out a lot of games

==============================
L
texas (-32) over rice
*normally id laugh at playing this big of chalk, but im not sure if rice scores in this game. rice has been able to move the bal against teams with awful run defenses (see: houston, see: hawaii) but its not gonna fly vs texas. if rice tries to change up and go to the air, fine with me. thats obviously not their style. can see this one 51-7 opr 51-10 if rice manages to put some scoring drives together

===============================
W
texas tech 2nd half (-6.5) (-120) over kansas
im not a big texas tech fan - i think their offense is a little too gimmicky, but they have been their own worst enemy today. theyre moving the ball effectively but throwing INTs at the wrong time. gotta think leach will throw throw throw until the final second is off the clock, so im comfortably laying some 2h chalk with a team that SHOULD play to the final gun and try and rally

===============================
pending
oregon state (+7.5) over arizona state
*a couple of good cappers already on it. im gonna jump on as well. im definitely a believer in asu this year. but dont like the spot. that was a big revenge game for them last week and im not sure if i can trust them as a TD+ chalk the next week out. one thing thats plagued asu in the koetter era is inconsistency. plea to derek anderson: please take care of the ball. if you do, your team can win.

===============================
W
2nd half southern cal (-13) over stanford

sucker bet of the year? maybe. but its a win-win. if southern cal comes back to win the game, im all but assured of cashing my bet. if i lose my bet, then reading the anti-usc posts on the board will be well worth the price of losing a couple bucks. i do, however, think usc turns it on. theyre that good. if carroll is as good as scott says he is, then usc dominates this 2h

Gman,
How you doing...What do you think about Syracuse getting 25 against Virginia, I know Virginia is becoming a 20+ pt favorite almost every game, but don't you see Reyes and the boys staying within this number especially after triumphing over Cinci last week when everyone said they would fall? What do you think, your opinion is golden thanks

Wake's offense isn't really a power-rushing attack. It's a misdirection and cut-blocking attack. I would hesitate to play Wake in the favorite's role. They're best when they fly under the radar, as you put it. They beat BC last year, and they will have BC's attention. Wake is just 5-11 ATS as a favorite under Grobe (compare that to 15-5-1 as a dog). BC is 13-4-1 with revenge for a SU and ATS loss, with two of those losses by just 2 and 3 points. I like the other side. Perfect for a teaser.

mw:

i know its not a smashmouth run game, but its basically the same attack grobe ran at ohio university (but with much better athletes now, lol). its still a physical rushing game though, and it can wear you down if the defense isnt disciplined. while there is a notable difference in wake's performance as a chalk vs. dog, with this game being essentially pick 'em, i cant say wake truly qualifies for either role. this line could flip flop before game time and then wake would go from a negative spread category to a 15-5 ats mark. anything from -2 to +2 in football i normally consider to be 'neutral', although some might disagree.

vyrus:

im not sure if syracuse is worth backing on their own merits, and uva is rolling right now. but (and im not a stat guy, so i cant say for sure) i do believe teams who have won by 30+ points in consecutive weeks are usually overvalued and potential "go-againsts" the next week. it is very tempting, youre right. but cuse getting blasted the way they did in purdue is what scares me.

Perhaps you would get a better response if you quote yourself and refer to yourself in the 3rd person. :142lmao: :142lmao:

I'm looking very hard at N Western the next two weeks. They are improved and getting some pretty good play out of their QB. I think that you may be sitting on a solid week.

I'm on Kent and the under thursday/ smallish plays.

GL this week Gman as I have a number of your plays on my card already. I have already played:

BG, Tol, NW, & Washington. I'm against you as I have Iowa. I'm serioulsy leaning towards WF as well.

****BLACKMAN SAYS**** GOOD LUCK.

In all seriousness I like the card --- looking at WF right now.

My only concern with Washington was how poor their defense looked last week vs UCLA, but ND does not merit laying double digit chalk to any decent team right now.

Very true. I just think Syracuse underestimated Purue in their first game and just lost grip of the game after the first few TD's. Nobody really knew Purdue would come out firing like this,this Orton kid is playing like Brees did back in the day. We will have to see, all in all I think Syracuse +25 has value because I dont see Lundy getting his 4th straight 3TD game...Plus Reyes is due for a big one, and nothing better than to have it against one of the hottest teams in the nation...Just my opinion, but love your plays...Especially Wake, that 1-2 punch at RB is AWESOME

After looking at some numbers I have come to the conclusion that BG may well be the class of the MAC this year. I like the fact that BG is off of a bye and knows that this is a game that will put them on track to go the distance this year. I also love their receivers( Magner may the be the best possesion receiver in all of collesge foots.)

I also have a lean to the over here as both Ds have been a bit porous to say the least.

Any word on the mood of BG following the death of that kid after his first practice?? It had to be a mighty tragic and traumatic experience for the program to be sure.

mac is really up for grabs this year. toledo has the best offense, marshall has the best defense, miami has the best balance of the two, and bowling green is a true wild card. they brought back all their skill position players except for the most important one -- harris. but jacobs looks like he is the real deal. hes still raw though. but like you said - when you have a wr corps like bowling green has, youre going to be effective moving the ball as long as the qb has time to get fling it around.

oh yeah, btw -- has the 'frye for heisman' campaign been silenced down there yet? im starting to think frye should have left for the draft after last season. i would think his stock, through no fault of his own, is precipitously dropping.

Once again Gman I must dissent
I am on all of your picks but Wake/ BC

Go back to last season...
BC is 6-1 SU on the road (this includes wins at V Tech and Penn state)
They actually play BETTER on the road.
BC is planning a "special" season.. They will win and convincingly at Wake.
BC will stop there run and hit wake with a solid air and run game..
They ran all over UCONN and PENN st this year with there 2nd string back..
Please save your money and either play BC or stay off.

i respect your opinion, but unfortunately wake is one game that im really sold on. i think its a litte presumptuous to think eagles will shut down that wfu running game. i guess im just not sold on boston college to this point. they struggled with an awful ball state team in their only road game, and that sticks out. both penn state and uconn moved the ball on bc. one thing i will say for bc is that they have excellent balance - they throw and run equally as well. but i just dont see how wake forest doesnt win this game. at 4pm on saturday, one of us will be right

How about a record for the season, just not the week. looks like you are avoiding something.

funny you mentioned that -- i was just talking to one of my other buddies who was coat tailing during that run and he is already trying to get me to study college hoops. i gotta say, that run was surreal last year, lol. ive never messed with too many football totals, so part II might have to wait until december or january, ha ha.. gl this weekend vinnie.
