Florida State -9.5 10 units
The defense was supposed to be strong this year. The offense would be changing to a west-coast offense and that would be the side of the ball that Notre Dame would struggle on because they did not have the personnel to function in that type of offense. Those were the concerns coming into the season and nothing that Notre Dame has done this season has alleviated those concerns. Their record is impressive, but the substance behind those wins is not a foundation for future success.
Can the Irish offense move the ball consistently and keep pace in an uptempo game in which their defense will not be dominant?
Can the Irish defensive backfield continue to provide dominant rush help when Florida State has so much talent at the wide outs when they have matched up against one great receiver all year?
Can the defensive backfield stay with their men when Rix's running ability will be able to buy his receivers time downfield?
Can the Irish keep their focus in a hostile enviroment when their only two road venues have been Spartan Stadium and Air Force, hardly enviroments where Notre Dame didn't have their followers out in full force? This is Tallahassee.
With all the talk about Willingham turning this program around, let's remember that Notre Dame is only two year's removed from a BCS bowl. That team put Nebraska into overtime and was 9-2 going into a bowl game with Oregon State. They also used turnovers to play over their heads, but instead of creating takeaways, they limited giveaways. But when they played the superior athletes (and now the convicted felons) of that Oregon State, they got crushed because ND's quarterback was asked to do things to get the Irish back into a game that he was not asked to do all year. And we're only one year removed from a opportunistic Maryland team heading into Tallahassee to take on a down Florida State program. Florida State by 20+

But, as I have been wrong this season more than I've been right, I do have some concerns in the Florida State's coaching staff's ability to make decisions and have been nothing but impressed with Notre Dame. If this game is close, it will be because of the Irish defense as there is no way the Irish wins in a shootout. If the game is close at the end, Notre Dame will win outright.
