Record :

College Foots: 5-2 (+9.3 units)
HSF DEGEN : 10-5-1 (+4 units)

Starting with these 2...

1. Northwestern State /Incarnate Word under 58'... 2 units (-120)
*Southland Conference opener for these two. State was out muscled last week 55-7. (I was actually curious what Baylor would bring to the table with all the coaching and administrative issues the Bears had) Neither team is an offensive juggernaut. I expect better defense from State as their strength is stopping running, and breaking up passes. The Bears are led by their returning Rb Jackson. They want to run at Word. Incarnate will also look to run. I like the Under here, taking a flyer on the side, however, I think State probably covers the 10.
WINNER

2. Eastern Kentucky /Pikeville (ky) Over 53'. I look to E. K. to bounce back from their game with Purdue.... in which they managed 24 points. Actual QB duel going on with the infamous Maty Mauk of Mizzou fame fighting for the QB job. New Coach brings a lot of energy to the program. E. K. will employ a spread offense that will be in hurry up mode. Only 3 returning starters on D. Pikeville has got off to a 2-0 start, however the competition has been the NAIA variety. If Pikeville can score 3 Tds, I think this goes over easily. Gluck. WINNER

Not really sure how I double posted... My apologies.....
*I have been posting Degen plays each week in the NFL forum. I decided to move plays over here.

DEGEN HSF PLAYS:

1. Depending on which poll you look at, #1 meets #3 in California for the prep bragging rights on the gridiron. I'm talking about Bishop Gorman vs St John Bosco. I have debated getting on a flight and getting to this game tomorrow evening. This might end up being the best high school game of the year ; although it might be hard to match last week's tilt between IMG ACADEMY against Corona Centennial that IMG eon 50-49 in a shoot out.

Gorman comes in as the 2 time defending USA TODAY Super 25 National Champs. Bosco may have the hardest schedule of any team in the US. Bosco features 20 players with DIV 1 scholarship offers. Bosco is still fighting off the effects of losing the last 2 years to Centennial in the CIF Southern Section Championship.

Braves will line up 5 Oline averaging 300 lbs. RB Beasley is averaging a whopping 11.5 yards per carry, with 321 rushing yards in 2 games. QB Re-Al Mitchell is also averaging 11 yards every time he takes off. He has 149 yards rushing in 2 games against Ohio power St Xavier and LA Mirada (won state in their division last year) Boscos D has pitched 2 shut outs in their 2 games.

Bishop Gorman counters with Ohio State commit QB Tate Martell who might be arguably the best QB in the nation on the prep scene. Gorman has man handled 2 powers from Texas and Florida. In last week's game against Cocoa, Martell was 7 of 8 in the 2nd half with TD passes of 61, 52, 42 and 12 yards. The last time these two locked horns was in 2014,Gorman won 34-31.

Its hard to cap this game, however the line opened at 7' for Gorman, but currently sits at 6. I like Bosco to upend Gorman as this team could beat some JC schools out here. Why I like the points, my wager will be on the Over 58 as I expect a shoot out...... 1 unit (-120)..... LOSER.... BOSCO 20 - GORMAN 35......Arghhh.....2 parlays down the drain because Bosco throws a pick from the 8 in the end zone with 3 minutes left. Very frustrated..... Congrats to the boys from Vegas... You deserve to be #1.

2. Greater Atlanta Christian vs Valor Christian.... +7'.....1 unit (-120)... WINNER....... Valor 21-GAC 17

*Spartans may be featuring the 2nd best QB in the nation. QB David Mills last year threw for 2,821 yards throwing with a 60% completion rate. He is heading to Stanford on a full ride, where he will just miss Heisman candidate McCaffrey, which just so happens to be the brother of the QB for Valor Christian. Their dad played in the NFL (Ed McCaffrey)

Spartans are traveling 1,400 miles to Colorado. QB Dylan McCaffrey has had some good numbers, however, the team has started the year 0-2. Valor will need to change their ways if they plan to repeat as a 6th straight State Champ.

Mod on Special teams goes to Atlanta. They have one of the states best field goal and kickers. Atlanta is young on Offense with only 4 returning starters. Neither team has been an offensive juggernaut. Valor has really struggled. I lean to the Under 56',but will put my money on Greater Atlanta +7'....gl.

Valor is not as strong as they have been in the last 3 years-but this year they are playing a very strong schedule before league play--gl

Agree, very strong, but it won't get any easier against Greater Atlanta. My concern is they are only averaging 19 points a game. I hear this QB is a baller (has good genes)... so I'm kinda surprised they are so inefficient on O.

Valor's line play on both sides is not nearly as good as the last 3 years but hey are due. Mac kids is ok but I never thought he was as good as his brother and going to Mich??--The younger brother is the best of the bunch I hear? GL

Adding: Menyana 9-9

1. Maryland - 10 over Fla INT.... 3 units.... WINNER......
*Last week Maryland blitzed Howard, while Fla INT played in Indiana losing 34-13. Interestingly, Fla INT was winning 13-12 going into the 3rd quarter. Indiana scored 22 points in the 4th quarter to put them away. TheSmi last time these 2 locked horns wad in 2013,Maryland came out on top 43-10. Golden Panthers have a 3rd year QB who threw for 263 yards lw. However, he also threw 3 picks. His top receiver is his TE Jonnu Smith. The running game was practically non existent. In addition, the Run D was weak and struggled against the Hoosiers. This was something that Maryland did very well against the Bison. New head coach DJ Durkin has brought a new attitude to the Terps. He employed a 3 QB rotation last week. The offense had over 500 yards. Granted FIU will be a better test, but I think Maryland pulls away and wins by 20. Gl.

2. Syracuse /Louisville Over 69'....3 UNITS... ..WINNER.... .. Hmmm Louisville throttles Charlotte scoring 70 points. Syracuse also gets a W by defeating Colgate 33-7. The Carrier Dome isn't the easiest venue to play at in fact I believe the last time Louisville was ranked and came to Cuse they went away defeated.

Enter Dino Babers and holy Bobby Petrino. Both coaches like to score. Both coaches like to throw the ball around. Babers has implemented a new spread, go fast tempo offense that he learned at Baylor, and implemented at Bowling Green and E. Illinois which turned them into offensive juggernauts. Bobby has already started to make waves by questioning Babers offense as he feels they play too fast! Bobby's such a Saint.

Louisville is playing vintage Petrino ball. Last week something like 16 different receivers caught a pass. The QB is an athletic dual threat, who is very dangerous on the ground. He had a huge week. Scoring 8 different times.

Babers offense snapped the ball every 22.5 seconds. Babers said it was too slow. Syracuse was very vanilla and is expected to open up the playbook. The Orange will trust QB Eric Dungey who is very highly regarded.

Why I like the points with the homedog, Louisville could be looking ahead to Florida. I like the over better as this one smells like a shoot-out. Played over 69'. Good luck!

Oh what the hell... A couple more DEGEN Specials...... Again, some good value using these picks in Parlays as the book isn't going to take a large wager on a High school football game! *Also, I'm really busy capping this weekends games, so not a big write up.

From the great state of Alabama....

3. *Top Play*
..... Jefferson Davis /Enterprise Over 53'.....2 units... (-120).... LOSER... FINAL SCORE 12-0....Oh well!.. .Davis beat Enterprise last year 34-7 as they went 6-4 on the year. Thus far they are 2-1 with the offense averaging 33 points per game. Enterprise has got off to a 3-0 mark and are looking for a little payback. Enterprise has a great Oline and a QB that can throw deep to some outstanding receivers. The offense has been averaging over 40 points per game.

Jefferson Davis has 5 Div 1 recruits. QB Zarron Haney returns from a rather pedestrian 2015 campaign where he had 1,547 yards with 17 TDs. Both teams have average secondaries. I think Enterprise will win by more than 10,however, I love the Over here!

4. Hoover/Spain Park...... Under 39.... WINNER.... FINAL SCORE.... 26-8....This game is called the "The Battle for the City" have to respect Hoover for its history and tradition. The school has churned out some great Div 1 talent over the years. A lot of wins and a lot of state championships. Hoover is 79-8 since 2010. Coach has been there 9 seasons. Before he got there Hoover was coached by Rush Probst (featured back when MTV made a show called 2 A Days) Probst is now at Colquitt County in Georgia where he enjoys continued success. The latest Coach has won 4 state championships at Hoover and has been a post season shoe in each year.
Perhaps it is the changing of the guard. Spain Park has tried to emulate Hoover over the years. I think they were beat 13 consecutive times. Last year Spain Park upset Hoover during the regular season and shut them out. The Jags saw Hoover again in the State 7A play-offs and again won 7-6. Both Defenses played lights out ly and Hoover held opponents to 10.5 points per game. Both defense are again strong, as SP has held opponents to under 20 average in the first 3 games where they are 3-0.

Spain Park lost 6 players to Div 1 ball ly. However, they return All State Rb Larry Wooden. Spain Park held opposition to 10 points per game ly. Obviously something had to give. Both teams again have suffocating D.
Last week Hoover won 19-3 as the Hoover kicker made 4 field goals. The offense is a major concern. Spain Park will ride the arm of QB Hunter Howell who was 19-22 for 218 yards with 3 TDs. Jags are 3-0, Bucks are 2-1. Spain Park wants to get back to the state championship for retribution. They know that road goes through Hoover. Both Defense have established dominance and points will be at a premium.... Play the Under 39.
.........*Note: I really believe the wrong team is favored in this one. 11' points is a gift..... I'm putting 1 unit on it. Just FYI... The only thing keeping this play from being the highest rated is that last year when Spain Park beat Hoover in the playoffs. The student body rushed the field and attempted to knock over the goal post (yes, at a high school game) I'm sure the Hoover coach will be using that as motivation for his team to protect their house! Still, take the points here!... LOSER..... YEP, I bet they never try to take down your rivals goal post again.

Add 1 more HSF....

5. Blount/Saraland Over 51..... LOSER... Final Score... 42-7...... 1 unit... (-120) *Blount is 3-0 to start the season. The year before 11 - 2, beating Saraland 34-30. The Spartans are 2-1 to start. In 2015 they were 2015. Spartan Coach Jeff Kelly is in his 5th season. His overall record is 46-16. They have reached the 6A playoffs every year he has coached, yet have no crown. The Blount Leopards have a 2nd year coach. He has brought in a dynamic offense that features his All State QB Kadarius Toney who is headed to Florida. Last year's offense averaged 42.6 points a game. This year, Toney has missed 1 game due to illness, yet he still has 7 TDs and over 500 yards of offense. He is a classic dual threat.

Saraland is led by Junior QB Jack West, who is committed to Stanford. He is most comfortable throwing from the spread. Also, both Coaches know each other very well and say they are best friends. (They coached together for 3 years at an Alabama high school). Both teams utilize RBs by committee. Blount has the better Oline. Although, Saraland returns 3 starters. Both Defenses are average. Blount rotates 8 Dlinemen. Saraland Lbs are very young. The D strength is the shut down CBs for Spartans. One Corner is headed to South Alabama. Both have dangerous special teams.

Blount just has too much firepower in this one, although I think the safer bet is the Over 51. Blount may put up 40 by themselves. Have a great day, we will see you Saturday.

Record -

College Foots: 9-2 (+20.3 units)
HSF DEGEN : 12-9-1(+/-0)

Adding: 9-10

FCS PICKS-

1. FURMAN +14 over The Citadel..... 3 units.... *Military Appreciation Day at the Citadel. Furman just gets done giving Sparty all that it can handle, when it was supposed to be a pushover for the Defending Big 10 Champs. Paladins were in a 1 possession game midway through the 4th quarter. Obviously this gives Furman a huge confidence boost for this week match. Paladins true FROSH ran for 83 yards on 20 carries against a usually stout Mich St "D". Furman actually had a chance to win as they had twice 1st and goal from inside the 5 yard line; but ended up settling for field goals. On defensive side of the ball, forced 2 turn-overs and held Sparty ground game to 4.3 yards per carry. Furman appears to be massively improved over last years 4-7 season.

Citadel beat the Paladins 38-17. Furman safety Richard Hayes III was all over the field ly and he is back. Citadel ran wild ly popping ball out to outside the tackles,on toss and options. Citadels 2 DTs controlled the line of scrimmage ly. If course the Citadel is defending league Co-Champs. I think this on goes down to the wire, I wouldn't be shocked if Furman walks away with the W.

2. UC Davis/So. Oregon Over 63....4 units...... Aggies again take a stab at another Oregon school. Davis put ip 28 points to a hard fought loss to the Ducks in Eugene. (One of the hardest places to play for the outsiders) RB Manusamoa Luuga carried the load for Davis rushing for 96 yards with 3 scores on the ground. Ducks ranked at #24 in the nation lw. QB Ben Scott was 27-47 for 303 yards and ran one in from 9 yards out. This will be 1st timea in 63 years that these 2 will renew their rivalry that produced some classics back in 1930s - 1950s. This is the 1st FCS opponent for the Red Raiders since they almost knocked off Sac St in an OT loss 63-56.

SOU was ranked #2 in the NAIA pre-season poll, but lost last week to E. Oregon 45-40. Raiders were penalized 13 times for 192 yards. Just so everyone knows this isn't a fluke, ly they averaged 77.5 yards in penalties per game. In addition, to E Oregon they fumbled 4 times, losing 3 which turned into easy scores. QB Senior Tanner Trosin threw for 360 yards on 30-50. He hit 10 different Red Raider receivers. SOU still managed 493 total yards and out gained E Oregon but still lost. Aggies are coming off a 2-9 season, but looked to be much improved after the performance at Oregon. They are actually picked to finish 13th in the Big Sky conference. This one has shoot out all over it. Expect this total to go over the number!

3. Elizabeth City +38' over Fordham... 4 units.... EC has a 1st year coach in the CIAA. The Vikings are coming off of a 20-12 defeat at Norfolk St. Their offense looked good in the first 2vdoens however, they stalled only going 3 for 12 to move the sticks on 3rd down. Offense averaged 6 yards per pass on 1st and 2nd downs, and 4.1 yards per carry. 2 QB system is showing good returns. The Rams were just pummeled by Navy 52-16 with a QB brought on the team in the 3rd quarter when the first 2 Qbs were injured. They do have a decent QB who is a Senior and was 26-45 for 302 yards with 58% completion rate. Granted the Vikings are stepping up in rank but I think they have the athletes to stay within the big number for a team that hasn't proven it has any business laying that much chalk..... Gl.

Sorry running out of time. No long write ups.. Just suffice that I have studied and these are my top 3 plays for Saturday...

1. Akron +25 over Wisconsin... 5 units.... *Wiscy coming off a huge emotional win against LSU, no doubt the attention to detail may be a little off this week. Zips took down VMI lw with QB Thomas Woodson throwing 6 TD passes. Zips return a healthy amount of starters that finished 2015 - 16 season with a Bowl win against Utah St. 23-21. The current head coach for Bucky, Paul Chryst last saw the Zips in 2014 when he was coaching at Pitt. Akron won outright. Badgers secondary will be tested with a completely different look than what LSU brought to the table. I wasn't sold on Bucky QB Bart Houston. Zips had 3 straight up wins ly as a Dog. I'm thinking hang over at Camp Randle..... Take the points.

2. Kansas - 2' over Ohio..... 3 units... . I could write a book about how bad Ohio is. Kansas has a chance to go 2-0 after last year's miserable season. Laying chalk with Jayhawk? Sure, why not!

3. Tulsa/Ohio St Over 73.....4 units..... I know it's a lot of points, but this one should get there fairly early. Don't forget that Urban Meyer loves to tune it up for the pollsters....

BONUS: I actually played Prairie View +48'.... 3 units @Texas A&M. Classic sandwich game I couldn't pass up, especially after A&M shot it's wad on the Bruins. Now here comes Auburn. Prairie View is only 50 moles from their big brother. I don't believe T A&M has much interest in embarrassing PV. They are actually on an winning streak as they have won by straight games in the Southwest Athletic Conference.

Have a great day gentleman!
