ND still has major question marks at DB position. If you watched the ND/Michigan game, the Michigan WRs were open and getting separation from ND secondary. They just didn't execute. Henne had bad game and maybe you give ND some credit there with either pressure or defense schemes = confusion. But point is the Michigan WR's were open.

Michigan St. QB is capable of hitting open WR's. MSU does have a solid offense. ND has given MSU coaches lots of stuff to work with since ND played 2 tough road games back to back.

Right now 7pts looks like a lot of pts for ND to give a team who has the "potential" to expose their weakness. Don't forget this is a small rivalry game between the 2 programs. Lots of close games between the 2 programs.

Notre Dame will take MSU to the wood shed on Saturday. Their secondary is just fine. B. Quinn missed a ton of open receivers that game as well. A. Wooden was all over Breaston the entire game. M. Richardson is my only concern, but the defense rolls to his side of the field for extra help.

MSU is good offensive team. But they have no WR that is as good as Breaston, Avant, and Lee (Pittsburgh). Staton is a lot like Palko, both of whom run well for the QB position. Additionally, Weis has already been in the players ear about losing to Michigan State at home for four straight times.

They manhalded MSU last year in Lasing, MI, before almost handing the game over to them in the 4th quarter. This game will be very physical (like all MSU/ND games). But the atmosphere for this game will be electrifying on Saturday. I have never had a harder time getting extra tickets for a season opener. People are PUMPED.

Also, people who don't follow the Irish and just listen to what the media says concerning the secondary are in trouble. ND last year was playing a soft zone most of the time because K. Baer was a friggin puss! R. Minter is the new defensive coordinator from S.Carolina and was the DC back in the Holtz days. He runs numerous blitzing schemes that put a hurting on Pitt and Michigan.

All of the secondary (Wooden, Lambert, Zibby, Nuke) were highly recruited out of HS. With the exception to M. Richardson, they are all tremendous athletes as well.

ND -7 is a gift. I normally only play small wagers on ND just to have some action... But I will be at the game and it will be over by the half.

I like ND, Weis will find a way to pick apart Mich St's D. Also a point to notice, Mich State did not score a single touchdown in the second half against UH, until after UH put in their 2nd string and Mich State still had in their first string. Note that UH only watched last season's games of Mich state to prepare for that game(being that they did not want to exchange tapes and Mich State seen UH on national TV). So UH was able to make good second half adjustments after seeing what Mich St is really gonna do. Yeah maybe Mich State may have been saving something in the second half for Notre Dame, but I highly doubt they considered it early at least early in the second half.

honolulu, Hi, USA
JMHO. I believe ND will be facing the best offense to date. Pitt does not have an offense and I believe Michigan was overrated. ND has been playing good "D" so it makes for an interesting game; furthermore, to spice it up, add the rivalry factor. Remember the tie game about 3 decades ago? Gonna stay away from this game and just sit back and watch.

Guys,
Not because I am a Michigan tried and true fanatic, but did anybody look at the game between Notre Lame (can't help it) and Michigan. Has anybody looked at the stats from that game?

Notre Dame ran the ball for a whopping 104 yds on 44 carries!

If it wasnt for Notre Lame's passing game, oh wait, they only got 140 yds from that.

If it wasn't for Notre Lame's incredible rush defense, oh wait they gave up over 4 yds per carry with Hart gone to a true Freshman who only knows 6 rushing plays. (even though he went through training camp.)(from a Michigan Newspaper source this summer)

Not to mention time of Possesion equal, ND had 2 more first downs,Mich had almost 100 more yards more offense with 1 less play. With every other stat being equal or extremely comparitive in Michigan's favor.

TO THE POINT (finally)

WHY DID Notre Lame win?
They are a better team? NO
They played better? NO

Norte Lame was better coached? Yes
Look at the play calling during the game. Notre Lame was ready for the pridictable nature of conservation that has recently been plaguing Carr. I have been following Michigan now for almost 20 years and I was watching the game calling the plays and watching ND call the right plays to handle them. Even the audibles were on track. It was embarrasing to say that I saw this coming but that is why I played Notre Lame on the Money line and the spread.

Wager Type: Money Line
Wager Status: Win
Risk / To Win Amount: 50.00 / 125.00 (USD) Accepted 9/10/2005 11:36 AM - EST
Amount Paid: 175.00

Sport / Period: College Football / Game
Line:
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9/10/2005 12:00:01 PM - EST
+250
(I know I am not a big man on campus in here but I do bet at least)

When your number is up, your number is up. Carr is turning into another Paterno and unless he gets his head out of the gutter and become more agressive on the play calls, he will get a "www.letsgetridofCarr.com" site started.

OK enough about that.

John L. wont make the same mistakes. He wont ever be conservative or predictable. Mich St. has probably the same calibur Defense (I know not saying much) but the Offense is so much more capable at this stage.

Weiss is incredible and has started the College football circuit with a Goliath mentality of crush everyone because we are Notre Lame (and thats a good attitude), Charlie has the brain to back most of that up. The only problem, Michigan St and John L Smith wont care about reputation or respect deserved. They never get any. So why SHOULD they care?

Enough about emotion and probablys.

Michigan State will put up 28-35 points on the Irish, the question is can Notre Lame put up 30-38 points on the Spartans?

The answer is most definitely NO. After only 244 TOTAL OFFESIVE YARDS against an overrated UM defense that NIU put 411 yards on, Notre Lame goes up against an offense that can flat out outscore them.

Pitt is overrated, (I hate saying it , but) Michigan is overrated, but Michigan State Will gain some respect this weekend!!!!

Michigan State will WIN OUTRIGHT!!

Great post INtheBLUE.

Wasn't Michigan without 3 starters on OL against ND?

One and Massaquoi, but Ecker filled in nicely with the team high 7 receptions. And ND lost McKnight too. THe o-line actually did their job pretty well I thought.

IntheBLue, the ND/Mich game IMHO turned on that opening drive when Irish carved their asses up, after that Mich never seemd to gain balance or confidence, it was kinda weird watching that game I had MIch on ML to other previous winner, and then took ND and U in 2nd half parlay ... but that game was pretty even other than I felt ND sent a message Mich couldnt recover from on opening drive

gl, gregg

ps this nd/msu game is like ucla/ou i can see several scenrious
