New England is on a roll like few other professional football teams have been on. What is most amazing is that they do it without all of the pomp and circumstance. They do not have a Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison or Edgerrin James on offense. They have Tom Brady, Bethel Johnson and Antowain Smith. New England has won twelve in a row, six against teams with winning records, including a hard fought 38-34 victory at Indy on November 30. In fact, they have not lost straight up since September 28 against Washington way back when Steve Spurrier was their coach. New England is 13-3 ATS overall and 8-1 ATS at home this year. They have done it largely with team defense. New England is 11-2 ATS at home after allowing fewer than 17 points, 14 against Tennessee last week and is 4-1 ATS after scoring 10-20 points, 17 against Tennessee last week. New England ranks 3rd in the league in rushing defense and Indy ranks only 19th in offensive rushing yards in the league. Part of the problem is Edgerrin James was limited to 310 carries in only 13 games. The ?Edge? averaged 26 carries in the ten games Indy won that he played in and less than 17 carries in the three games they lost. Indy quarterback Peyton Manning has had an unbelievable post season, but the top ranked overall defense in the league will be up to the challenge on Sunday. Another fact to keep in mind is Indianapolis is 0-6 ATS in the series. The weather forecast for Foxboro on Sunday is for partly cloudy skies with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. Maybe Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms will only mention the weather every thirty seconds.
