Just checked 5D for this line and it's gone. Last time I checked, Neb -3. Not that the Huskers are great but I really liked them to expose PSU exploiting that anemic offense.

I just read that the PSU board of trustees might ask Paterno to resign immediately so I assume that's why the line is down, not just because of the overall scandal. Absolutely sickening. I can't even imagine what the atmosphere will be like at Beaver Stadium Saturday. How could anyone really cheer anything after all of this, esp if Paterno and McQueary are there. It also makes you wonder how deep this goes. DC Tom Bradley has been rumored to be Paterno's successor, but how could the program really keep anybody currently associated? You have to think this was a dirty not-so-secret that ALOT of people knew about and kept quiet. I almost think Spanier (Univ Pres) will be booted along with Paterno and entire staff ...clean slate (and even that's not really possible).

As far as the game, I liked Nebraska anyway and I have to think the line will only go up IF they even post a line given everything else going on. Curious about other people's thoughts on the football/handicapping aspect of this.

Poon, do you like Neb to rebound in this spot?

FYI ? line is up at 5dimes.

Short-answer yes, but quite a bit goes into my thinking of that.

First off, I think you realize that I have tempered feelings about the Huskers. However, as others have noted Penn St. may be the most over-ranked team in the polls. Their offense is bad, we all know this, and Nebraska?s D should be able to perform much better than the turd they laid last week. Some of their D-line (which uses a heavy rotation now that Crick is out) was banged up and limited their rotation and fresh legs there. A quarterback like McGloin is one that they are better suited against than a mobile one that can give them trouble due to their over-pursuit and LB schemes.

Penn State?s D is ranked highly but a closer look makes you question that. The highest ranked offense they have played was Bama at 30. The average offensive rank of their 7 FBS opponents is 59.

Burkhead for Nebraska is banged up and less than 100% which was a factor in the Husker offense being more pass-oriented against Northwestern (as well as playing from behind). Lost in the shuffle of that was that Taylor Martinez actually had a decent passing performance that kept Nebraska in the ball game. No one is going to confuse the Nebraska O for Oregon?s attack yet, but it is obvious as the season moves along that their new O-Coordinator is calling better games and making better decisions. Yes, Nebraska put up more points in the non-conf, but that was against some really bad teams and those scores were more of talent winning out.

Some other things to consider, Pelini is 11-6 ATS in road games and he is 7-5 ATS after a loss. Not a huge sample given he?s only been a head coach 3.5 years, but things like that should always be considered in my mind.

It?s tough for me to get excited about Nebraska laying points at a venue that is so notoriously tough on visitors, especially when I think the Huskers are very average in the grand scheme of things. However, Penn State has many warts on and off the field that make a small number like 3 appear manageable.
