Where it is real F ing COLD
You are a fucking IDIOT!

Runners on second and third with one out and you pinch hit with Carlos Pena? Don't you want a guy who puts the ball in play? Not a .208 hitter who strikes out consistently. Seems like basic baseball. I knew they wouldn't score when he came up to bat, I just knew it.

Sucks, I thought the Royals were going to pull it our for sure. Yost is a weak link on this team.

Yost was horrible when he was with the Brewers. How he ever got on with another team, I will never understand. He properly sacrificed in the ninth and then pinchhits Pena, who is so easy to whiff. Unreal.

Outhit them 10 to 5 and still lose.

I remember him being terrible with the Brewers regarding game decisions. Getting into bean ball battles and ejections when they were in the middle of a pennant race. As a Royals fan I  when he was hired. The reason is the GM is about as competent. It is amazing they have a team with a record above .500 with these two at the helm. Yeah, people will talk about how they had a great farm system, but when you stink for so long it is hard to whiff on every draft pick. They have still done that and the players the do have rarely develop past their raw potential (see Mike Moustakas).

I couldn't agree more with all of you. Yost has made some interesting decisions when it comes down to crunch time. It seems like every week our office talks about Yost and his poor management. 1985 was so long ago but I remember game 6 rather well.

I was 7!!! Hard to believe that the Royals have sucked for so long. The things I remember the most from then are how fun it was to hear the name "Balboni" and how fucking awesome Saberhagen, Quisenberry and Brett were. I actually started cheering for the Cubs when I went to the University of Iowa because it had been so long since I had been able to root for a team in baseball. The sad thing is that the Royals would probably be firmly in possession of one of the Wild Card spots if they had a competent manager. :sadwave:

While Wil Myers becomes a star in TB for another 5 years. They were never going to do shit this year and they traded a 6 yr controllable cheap bat for Shields.

:mj07: :mj07:

My opinion on the trade is still the same. On paper it wasn't good to start and after a season that has been proven. I still like that the organization is thinking differently and willing to try to compete, but it still needs quite a bit more to improve further and actually be a post season club.

The problem is they had no business trying to compete with the big boys yet and they set themselves back. It reminds me of when the Mariners traded for Bedard after an 85 something win season where they really outperformed their real performance. Gave up 12 yrs of AJones and Tillman for some false hope.

I can?t argue against anything you posted when just looking at it from a black-and-white ?here are the facts perspective?. However, I think there is an x-factor that should be considered. Given their long history of ineptitude that goes beyond just not fielding a competitive team, a baby-step in the right direction should be acknowledged. Due to their stinginess, not only would they have a hard time getting free agents in town for a look, it affected their ability to sign decent homegrown players to longer deals. It wasn?t just that they weren?t winning, it was that the front office wasn?t willing to spend and make deals to try to improve the club. This is the same club that would purposively draft players rounds ahead of where they were projected so that they could limit the signing bonuses that the draftees expected.

They weren?t going to get in the playoffs this year unless several bad/unfortunate things happened to other teams. You won?t make it far in this league on hopes and dreams like that. However, outside of the values of what they gave up and what they got in this trade, I think the trade itself is a sign that the management has changed and they are going in a new direction than what they have experienced in the past. It is a slow process due to years of ineptitude but it has to start somewhere. They aren?t going to change anything overnight, no matter how good their farm system is (which is proving that it isn?t as great as once thought a couple of years ago).

Very disappointed in the extension for Yost. The Royals would have had a minimum five more wins with a competent manager. I would put the number around 8-10 though. In other words, this was a playoff team with a manager who knew what the fuck he was doing.

No one here will ever forgive Bavasi for that one. Seriously depressing stuff.
