I can?t argue against anything you posted when just looking at it from a black-and-white ?here are the facts perspective?. However, I think there is an x-factor that should be considered. Given their long history of ineptitude that goes beyond just not fielding a competitive team, a baby-step in the right direction should be acknowledged. Due to their stinginess, not only would they have a hard time getting free agents in town for a look, it affected their ability to sign decent homegrown players to longer deals. It wasn?t just that they weren?t winning, it was that the front office wasn?t willing to spend and make deals to try to improve the club. This is the same club that would purposively draft players rounds ahead of where they were projected so that they could limit the signing bonuses that the draftees expected.

They weren?t going to get in the playoffs this year unless several bad/unfortunate things happened to other teams. You won?t make it far in this league on hopes and dreams like that. However, outside of the values of what they gave up and what they got in this trade, I think the trade itself is a sign that the management has changed and they are going in a new direction than what they have experienced in the past. It is a slow process due to years of ineptitude but it has to start somewhere. They aren?t going to change anything overnight, no matter how good their farm system is (which is proving that it isn?t as great as once thought a couple of years ago).

Just because their minor league system didn't work out doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision. The Myers for Shields was a bad idea from the start. I understand they have sucked for so long it is a struggle but they were going for a quick temporary fix and it really worked out about as good as it could have and they still fell short and I think they have Shields for 1 more year instead of 5 more of Myers. And even if Shields stays he is going to start costing big money and he is a #2 starter. He is not an ace.

I'm not saying your wrong at all. I'm just saying to turn that franchise around and build something sustainable, it was really a poor move.

I think we are arguing two different things. I've never said that I liked the trade from a player/value perspective. They lose that no matter how you look at it and any baseball pundit knows that. As a long suffering fan I like that they did something different, even if it didn't work. Now at the same time, I realize swinging and missing with trades won't get you anywhere either. There needs be more than the just the semblance of 'trying' for them to continue to progress and actually make the post season.

I may have been guilty of glancing over it too fast.

I made hedgie an offer in the political forum. Lets see if he ignores that too.

Where it is real F ing COLD
The Twin Cities Sports talk radio is disappointed that the Twins resigned Gardy, Dan Cole and Dan Barreiro part of the Noon to 6:30 PM local radio on the KFAN say that Gardy is never held accountable and that he has the best job in the world cause the city makes excuses for him.

I generally like these two radio hosts but they couldn't be more wrong. They say that who would be in line for a manager with 3 bad seasons in a row and unable to win in playoffs? Well, I would say may 22 - 26 teams would take Gardy over what they have. You can fault the Pohlads who continually told it's audience that we "need a new stadium to compete." The Pohlads generated like 190 million in revenue in 2012 and then sliced payroll, strapped the hands of GM and Manager. Brought in shit ball players such as Pelfrey, Worley, and Correia, just to name a few. It's not Gardys fault when his team is AAA.

It's hard to argue this wasn't a successful season for the Royals, not giving the credit to the manager, but it was their first winning season in like 10 years. You can't just call every non World Series winner a bad or disappointing season.

I agree the trade was not in the best long term interest of KC, but they have to do something to Win some games, keep it interesting in the non world series level seasons.

Very good season for the Royals, very close to greatness if they can keep the team together. Need Hosmer to have a full season of good hitting and Moustakis to pick it up. The team is a pitcher or two away from being a top the central

Pitching wasn't their issue.

That is true looking over the starters, will be hard pressed for that group to duplicate it, I hope they win division next year, Twinks are a couple years away, if prospects pan out.

Wait till Buxton arrives. I've got Buxton and Sano in my fantasy league. I really hope Sano wins a job out of ST or at least really impresses.
