So I take my car to get a smog, and since the check engine light is on it obviously wont pass. So my question is, is there any way I can remove the fuse for the check engine light (if even possible) and bring it in and get the smog done with the fuse out? My car runs fine and don't really feel like bringing it to a mechanic to get fixed and be out of a car for a few days.

thanks in advance..

try this route first..if it fails get the make and model w/year and will get w/my man for either kill or bypass.

autozone does a free check engine light test..

they will hook it up and print you out a results page..may be an easy fix..

by the way, I know that if I reset the check engine light it will just come back on because I already tried that..

I did the diagnostic test myself a while back and it came up with cylinder 3 misfire. which could mean multiple things, coil, spark plug, and im sure many more..

The spark plug well seals are a chronic problem with the lincoln ls. Along with the famous cracking degas bottle, it should have been a recall. They leak and allow oil to get into the spark plug wells and short out the coils, causing a misfire. If you're getting a blinking engine light, it is a misfire. Pull the code...301 is cyldinder one misfire, 302 cylinder 2, 303 cyl 3, etc. Cylinders 1-4 are on the passenger side, in ascending order front to back when facing the engine from the front (1 is closest to the grille). 5-8 are on the other side, same persepctive. Pull the valve cover caps, the coils and plugs. Be careful-the connectors are brittle on the coils! Look at the lower boot on the coils as you pull them out, particularly from the misfiring cylinder(s). If it has oil on it, that's your problem. It should be bone dry. Even a little oil is a problem. Replace the valve cover gaskets (dealer item only for 3.9l), including the spark plug well seals, replace the faulty coil(s) and put DOUBLE PLATNUM plugs in only!!...cheesy plugs can generate high resistance and trip faulty misfire codes. Your problem should be solved, until the idiotic gasket design fails again.

LDB..since it isn't running bad it may be just an easy fix there..oil setting off the sensor.

easy out is just a smog pass..sorta like a hall pass..

the above it certainly a reference for future questions concerning the ride..

I love these car questions

you get a piece of black duct tape that fits the warning light exactly

tape it over the light

These Lincolns have so many problems... DO NOT BUY ONE!!

A month ago on my way to bodega bay for vacation my tire completely flew off the axle.. Now how the fuck does this happen, honestly... I have had to change out the radiator, coils, ball joints, and more....

This is by far the worst car I have ever had... Running it into a lake has crossed my mind more then a few times, that's for sure...

The only thing I can tell is that the idol is a little rocky at times, which im assuming is due to the misfire.. I honestly think its a coil like the site above.. Definitely going to look into this more...

Thanks guys for the advice...

oh and on the site, it said that if the check engine light is blinking its a misfire, however the light stays on...

"the bunker"
i posted a thread about my olds alero and all the trouble i had with the passlock system not allowing me to start the damned thing.....

well,i found a way around it.....it`s worked like a charm for several months.....

it sounds crazy...but it works...and that`s all that matters...

i put the key in and out of the ignition 2 times...turn the key over and do it a 3rd time....on the 3rd insertion of the key,i turn it to the "on" position(not all the way to "start")...if i don`t hear a "hum" in the dashboard(that means that the fuel injectors are allowing fuel to pass),i turn the key back to "accessories"..... ....then turn it again holding the radio button in....almost every time i get the "hum" and the car turns right over.....i don`t even attempt to crank it without hearing that hum....

sounds silly?.....try sitting in a parking lot or in a shady part of the inner city with a car that won`t start...

longest it`s taken to turn over has been around 30 seconds...compared to having to have it towed several times because the mofo is tempermental.....

might be silly, but it works.....

even mechanics dont know about methods like these... :D

So I unplugged my battery this morning and it cleared the check engine light... My wife just took it in to see if it will pass smog now.. wish me luck
