In general I do not deal well with salesmen and have had bad experiences with them in the past. I am sure some of you have some helpful info on buying a car. I usually find out all the info on the auto I am looking to buy and know a number I will not go over based on similar sales and such. I generally take the approach of I will write you a check for X amount and not a penny more. Not being in a hurry is an asset that I have, so how do I get the car I want for the cheapest amount. This will be a pre-owned truck and used a secondary vehicle. Also what charges do they throw in outside of the three T's. I figure there has to be a car salesmen or two in this bunch, if not at least people with more experience than myself. And yes I am also looking for individuals who are selling what I am looking for. Thanks Guys!!

this is how I bought my last 2 cars

this is how I bought my last 2 cars

Though they were new, but its all the same.
I went to www.kbb.com

you will see what the dealer paid for it( a rough figure anyway) and also what you should pay for it. if its a dealer, just look up your model under trade in value, usually for used cars a dealer has about $250 - $400 into it, getting it in shape etc.

add that and you go your total.

you might try the salvage vehicle market. check www.fanns.com and check their rebuildable vehicles section. they are in tn. at the top of that page check rebuilable dealers and they have dealers across the country you can check to find pretty good deals on vehicles. you have to justify in your own mind that the deal you are getting is worth it considering there will be no warrenty and will usually have a rebuilt vehicle/flood title.i have had good luck getting light fresh water damaged vehicles. it is a risk but if you get a good enough deal on the front end, you can take a chance. good luck.

I've been selling used cars for about a year and a half now.......Watch out for the "Dealer Fee" nearly everyone has them. They will range from $300-$900 depending on the dealer.I live in Orlando, and central Florida is the car auction capital of the world. If you know what you want and what you want to spend, I can probably obtain it for you within 2 or 3 weeks. If you wish, you may get my e-mail from Jack........

...or doc fee, just added profit the dealer makes (sales person is not compensated on these fee's). I've heard that in Miami it can be as high as $1000, Some states regulate it, TX is capped at $50 and if you read the fine print, you don't have to pay it there, if you don't, the dealer takes it out of the gross, screwing the salesperson again.

UGA12, I've been selling cars for 15 years and just got out Friday, my worst month ever, and I feel great. I worked for the same dealer principal all but the last 3 months after re-locating. The dealer that got me in the car business, has contacts across the US. Get my e-mail from Jack if you want to get hooked up with him direct (wholesales only now, NO FEE's) otherwise I hope you find what you are looking for.....

Thanks guys check out the sites, they offered some great info. Also thanks for the offers but I doubt you or your friends would want to go to that trouble for someone looking for a 5-10 thousand dollar used truck. Really want to find a for sale by owner, but if I must will go to the lot. Last thing I was wondering is if anyone had expirience with carmax, good or bad. Again thanks guys

carmax, mega dealer....you will never see the same person twice if there is a problem....if you buy from an individual, you'll likely never see them again either...buyer beware out there in the used car market. Any small town dealers in your area, maybe a best source for a $10K or less truck, big demand for those....Katrina...Rita...Wilma...going to be tough to find, anyway goodluck :thumb:
