Can anyone tell me if there is a head ref in hockey?

I also see that some of the games have a supervisor, does anyone know what their job is and why they only have them in some of the game?

thanks

All games actually have a referee supervisor at them. However, the lead supervisor of all officials is former referee Andy van Hellemond.

I may have asked the wrong question.

What I really need to know is if there is a head ref in each game.

thanks

There are two officials and two linesmen who work each NHL game. Just look for the two ingrates wearing the orange armbands and have whistles attached to their pieholes while holding one arm in the air atleast 20 times a game.
Lately anyways
I hope this helps! Good luck!

Jakejj and kono22,
thanks for the info.

Is one of the refs (or linesmen) actually considered the "Head" for the game?

Like in football the guy that tells us what the penality is is always the head ref and has control over the game.

thanks again

howdy,

Both Refs have equal power and control of the game. To answer your question, the refs are equals and they have more authority than the two linesmen. I hope this helps you.
