'Nerve gas bomb' explodes in Iraq

An artillery round containing a small amount of the nerve gas sarin has exploded in Iraq.
Brig Gen Mark Kimmitt said the blast caused a small release of the substance, and two people were treated for exposure to the agent.

The substance was found in an artillery shell inside a bag discovered by a US convoy a few days ago, he said.

It appears to be the first evidence of nerve gas existing in Iraq since the start of the US-led war last year.

The BBC's security correspondent Frank Gardner says the implications, especially psychological, for the use of such a substance by terrorists are potentially huge.

Gen Kimmitt said the dispersal of the nerve agent from a device such as the homemade bomb was "limited".

"The former regime had declared all such rounds destroyed before the 1991 Gulf War," he said.

The toxic nerve gas is 20 times as deadly as cyanide.

A drop the size of a pin-head can kill a person by effectively crippling their nervous system.

Oh my God. I'm wrong. You guys and President Bush (excuse me the great President Bush) have been right all along. He's the best we ever had. You mean he really had a nerve gas bomb. Can you ever forgive me.

You guys are absolutely wonderful. We have just finished chapter 2 of Justification for Invasion of Iraq by George W. Bush and are now about to begin Chapter 3. Lets review:

Chapter One: Invade!!!! Why, WMD.
Chapter Two: Invade!!!! Why, cause its the humanitarian thing to do.
Chapter Three: Invade!!!! Why, re-read chapter one.

He's had chemical and biological weapons since the 80's. We've known that. Aren't you guys grasping at straws just a bit.

Oh yeah, I forgot a chapter on how Hussein was a threat to the USA. What was he gonna do fly that nerve gas bomb over to Miami in one of those balsa wood delivery systems we found early on.

Of couse, this was a plant by coalition forces. The same that decapitated Berg and set up all this war so they could make some money on GAS. Heck, there's a lot of gas up in Cincy from what I've been reading here lately.

And I thought only commie liberals tried to kill their own people with stunts like this.

What the hey, the lefters will continue with their propaganda to win over middle school kids. .. and primates :142smilie

And yes, Clinton was always right. One of my favorite republicans. He just chose to leave things as they were ;)

Clinton (or his intelligence was right about it ) but I think Hellen Keller could anticipate if a person had WMD and used them in the past on his own people that there might be a hint he might still have them especially in light of the fact he had 550 of them he could not account after 1991 and then refused to let inspectors in to see where they went. I do believe that was why the resolutions were brought about and why we went to war.
There is only one group of people I know that could discount such facts.
Hint (it starts with L)
I am also sure his administation was fully aware of North Koreas nuke ambitions--the problem lies in what he did in both cases--looked the other way in Iraq- and not only looked the other way in NK but supplied them food oil ect so they could useirthen entire GNP for weapons. I know Bill it wasn't your fault they lied to you--who would ever imagine any political leader would do that:D

Saw something on T.V. yesterday which brought to mind all the American lives lost in WWII (400,000+) on foreign soil trying to defend the world, but NOT the U.S. Sickens me to lose even one American life fighting for OTHERS when our soil has never been truly invaded, Pearl Harbor and 9/11 notwithstanding but certainly acknowledged.

What truly sickens me though are the ingrates in those countries that turn their backs on us when we do what we think is right and justified after having the rules of the game changed on 9/11 and we lost close to 3,000 innocents.

I guess it has been and will always be America's burden to give its own to save the rest of the world. TRUE ignorance is taking the position that we should never do anything unless directly attacked or knowing attack is imminent. The philosophy that "no one is bothering me" or "no one has demonstrated any intent to attack me" as justifiaction to not involve one's self would have paid off beautifully for Europe during WWII.

Just wonder what the American response to WWII would be now given all the 24 hour news, talking heads, message boards and political polarization. Afterall our battle should have been with Japan why did we pursue Germany first on behalf of others when they did nothing to us? What about the careless waste of American life during the Normandy invasion and so many other battles where our men were considered so expendable. Would there have been congressional investigations and calls for peoples heads? Would Koppel have a nightly show naming the first 50,000 casulties of the war? I guess you can see where I'm going here. How would history have played out in today's world?

Any intelligent discourse to be had on this hypothetical without the usual accompanying personal vitriol that attaches to political posts on this forum? Would the Korean War have happened in this place and time? Vietnam?
