im surprised that YOURE surprised by the line. akron is head and shoulders above the rest of the mac imo and they have lost (going off of memory here, so spang will have to correct me) one, maybe two, times in the last two years at home.

No correction needed, The Zips last loss was to a pretty good Kent team near the end of the 04-05 season.

i would always follow you on mac stuff, i like spang's stuff too but i don't like totals so much.
i only focus on teams west of texas/colorado...
with all 5 starters back from last year and a very good 2nd option (kemp) for fakzekas + a tourny tough team. i'll back the better team. approaching this like duke last night, you hardy ever see a -3 on duke games unless in conference. gotta grab the wolkpack here.

Just a thought. Might be silly but is rational to me.
The main corridor of travel in and out of Reno is thru Denver. Only 2 airlines fly to Akron from Reno (frontier and Delta) when planning this trip do you think travel director chose 9 hr connection thru Atlanta or 5 hr connection thru Denver. My very strong guess would be thru Denver. If thru Denver flight would have had to be changed to Atlanta connection ( 3-4 days before Xmas do u think there where 25 seats on any one fight Doubt it. Id say it has been a nightmare for UNR to get to this game. The only other option would have been Southwest which connects in Phoenix and LV but only goes to Cleveland then would need a 1 hr (total travel time @12 hrs campus to campus) bus ride. I think we will see a very tired UNR. There is 1 other connection possibe it is a 7 hr connection in Phoenix on Frontier. Southwest is a sponser of UNR athletics but that doesnt mean all teams use them its usually which airline is the easiest. In this case it would have been Frontier!!!!

some info:
The Toledo game helped changed coach Fox's travel planning with his team, leaving a day earlier than usual on longer trips. The Pack arrived in Akron Wednesday. The Pack has thrived on the road for the last three seasons. It's 3-0 on opponents' home courts after wins at Oregon State, Santa Clara and Louisiana-Lafayette and 24-5 since the 2004-05 season. But in its only trip to the state of Ohio in that stretch of games, Nevada lost to Toledo, 83-75, in 2004.
"That Toledo game we lost because of my inexperience as a head coach," said Fox, who is in his third season as Nevada's head coach. "We went there the day before and got there late. We didn't handle that appropriately with our travel. We were a very tired team that day. We're a little smarter now."

This is a tough game. Nevada is a very good team and I love getting the points, plus this is the clearly the best team Akron has seen this year.

Playing on the road though, is always difficult, but I wonder if having the students gone on Christmas break the arena will be nearly as loud as it could be.

Nevada hasn't been out of this world this year, but other than the egg they layed at home against a very, very underrated UNLV team, have played solid.

I am leaning Nevada, just because I think they are better and the public is pounding this thing to Nevada +2 right now:scared

As for travel, I would guess Nevada flew to Cleveland through Salt Lake and bussed down. Doubt Denver was a factor.

Why would a travel cooridinator book a flight that is a 1/2 longer( also costs more $) and includes a 1 hr bus ride as opposed to saving the 1/2 hour and landing 5 miles from the campus in Akron?

Allright, this is what I can tell you, and this comes from a mid-court season ticket holder for several years who has faithfully followed the Zips.

I am concerned with Akron's offensive execution heading into this big game. The Zips were extremely sloppy in their tune up here Tuesday night vs. St Francis. Though their turnovers were not too bad, they missed several good opportunities down low, and the ball did not always go where it was designed to. They will need to clean it up big time to compete with the big boys.

The biggest concern to me facing the Zips tonight is rebounding. Over the last few seasons the teams that have had a strong inside presence tend to give Akron fits. Nevada can clean the glass
and second chance points will certainly come into play tonight. With Wood back the Zips will be a little better on the glass, but I still think that they can be beaten down low.

If Akron is to win tonight, they will need to do two things well.

1. The Zips will really get after the Wolfpack guards and force some turnovers. That was the winning recipe for UNLV.

2. Akron will need to shoot it well which they are more than capable of. The Zips were over 50% from the floorin their first 5 or 6 games.

I know that everybody and their mother is on the Zips tonight, and I hope they are right, but if the Zips do not offer some serious resistance to Fazekas and the wolpack on the glass I don't think that Akron wins it.

Sorry, buddy. I grabbed some Nevada +3 but didn't want to say anything. How about the Zips win by 1 or 2 and I will buy the first round Thursday night?

Ahhh, I can taste the Amstel already. trust me, a one point win would be very sweet.

Obviously facetiousness doesn't translate on message board. The point was, it probably doesn't matter if they arrived on Wednesday. For all we know they took a charter. Or maybe bussed from Reno to Texarkana and took musk ox up the mississsippi.

Regardless, as much as I have like the home fave against ranked road dog this year, I just think Nevada is a better team and will get the win.
