SAN JOSE STATE +1.5 - San Jose State has won this matchup 2 of the last 3 years, averaging 45.7 points per game in the process, and I like them to emerge victorious as a small home dog here. They will also be motivated by the fact that they are seeking revenge for a 52-24 whooping at Nevada last season. That could make all the difference, as these clubs are not really separated by all that much statistically. Granted, San Jose is only averaging 14.0 points per game, compared to Nevada?s average of 23.5 points per contest. However, the difference in average total yards is negligible, and I expect San Jose to finally convert all of those total yards into points vs. a very suspect Nevada defense. If that isn?t enough, the Spartans will also be inspired by special teams player Neil Parry suiting up for the first time since having part of his right leg amputated below the knee! Given all of this, San Jose may win this contest just on emotion alone.

SOMEWHERE IN THE DEEP SOUTH
San Jose/Nevada

Perhaps the appearance of Parry suited up and on the sidelines will give the Spartans a much needed emotional lift in this contest. But what they really need is for Rislov to move the team down the field and find the end zone with some of his passes, which will not happen. When the SJSU run defense fails to get a hold of Nevada's Kretschmer, it will be a game reminiscent of last season, with the Pack taking the victory again.

Neveda -1.5

LOOKING FOR AN ANGLE
By Gary Olshan, Chief Analyst
Nevada at SAN JOSE STATE (Thursday night)...You can expect a highly-inspired effort from SJS in conference home opener. Sr. walk-on Neil Parry, whose right foot and part of his right leg were amputated after he was severely injured vs. UTEP on Oct. 14, 2000, has been cleared to take the field and play vs. Nevada. After being fitted with a special prosthesis, he?s scheduled to see
some action on special teams. Wolfpack led just 31-24 in 4th Q before reeling off 21 straight points in LY?s 52-24 victory (one TD was 21-yd. int. return).
