I am the public address announcer for our local midget football team and we had a really nice tribute to 9/11 before the game. The football team is sponsored by the local fire department. We had the kids line up on the hashmarks and the firemen brought in the US flag dressed in their bunker gear. Then I read this:
Do you remember where you were 10 years ago today when you found out that two planes attacked the World Trade Center towers? And then where you were when the world also learned a plane hit the Pentagon and that brave passengers and crew purposely took down flight 93 in rural Pennsylvania?
On this day we remember the fallen, the brave men and women who went to save others and did not return, and for that our nation gives honor for their bravery.
This 9/11 anniversary is our chance to also pay tribute to a generation that has bourne the burden for our security during the past decade of war. This 9/11 generation is made up of volunteers who chose to serve in a time of war. They have upheld the virtues of service, sacrifice and selflessness that have always been the source of America?s strength.
Then we had a moment of silence, then an 8 to 10 year old girl sang our national anthem. It was really special.
Let us never forget.
