ok, i planned on posting every bowl game, but i had company yesterday and never got a chance to post the last 2 games. so 1-1 to kickoff the bowl season.
troy (-4.5) 2 units. really close to 1 1/2 units. i definitely like the trojans here, as they had a very good season, almost punctuated by a win at lsu. 3 of their 4 losses were at ohio state, oklahoma st, and lsu. and obviously a bowl game will mean more to troy than southern miss. but southern miss did win 4 straight games just to become bowl eligible, so they are on a bit of a roll.
both teams have a strong running game (nearly 200 ypg for southern miss & 175 for troy) backed up by a solid passing game (~250 ypg each). bigger difference on defense, where troy gives up over 1 yard per play less than southern miss. that number is somewhat countered though by the way southern miss' defense finished the year, allowing 35 total points in the last 4 games.
i'm giving the nod to the team that had the more consistent year, and will be more fired up to be playing tonight.
