We have two games on Monday, and I am on one of them....BIG.

To start the year I am going to side with the Memphis Tigers -36

First, the Tigers return 5 of 5 starters. That is huge. In fact, hat is more than huge, that is gigantic. That is going to be such a huge factor for Memphis this season.

Now lets take a look at season openers dating back the past 3 years.....

06-07 they beat on Jackson State 111-69
05-06 they beat on Wisc Mil. (who turned out to be a very solid team that year) 79-52
04-05 they destroyed Savanah State

Now to the lineup....I absolutely love this Memphis lineup. They have the most athletic bunch of athletes in all of college basketball in my opinion.

Douglas-Roberts is a gunner, he is your typical 2 guard that can take advantage of his defender with his 6'6 200lb frame.

The bigs on Memphis are NASTY. Dorsey and Dozier are going to cause MAYHEM on the boards. Memphis will win this rebounding battle by TREMENDOUS fashion. They will muscle the Tenn-Martin bigs with no trouble, and Dorsey should have a field day with his defender.

Now that brings us to the PG position and the much anticipated debut of Derrick Rose, who was seen by many as the #1 prospect to sign last year. Many thought Rose would be handed this job on a silver platter, but in summer workouts, Willie Kemp stepped up his game and showed his coaches he deserves this spot. If Kemp has improved that much, and can run this offense, this team is going to be special.

Now the bench....and what a bench it is. The prized prospect Derrick Rose is going to add some serious spark coming off the bench. Memphis has always had the upper hand with their superb athleticism coming off the bench.

All in all, I think Memphis should win this game by 40-50 points. 1st game of the season and you have 2 things that can happen. Do they come out cold and slack off vrs. a far inferior team? Or do they come out and light them up in front of the home town and show everyone they mean business this year?

I am going with option #2. :00hour

Go Tigers!

TN-Martin will be bad this year, there is no question about that. My only worry is that Memphis hasn't had their exhibition game yet. (they actually have an exhibition game on the 12th after they start this 2K Hoops Classic.)

Anyway, I typically don't put too much stock into exhibition game, except that they are good to to get those kinks out so that teams don't slack and are lacidasical in their first game.

However, given how big of a mis-match this is, it's still tempting to lay the points.
