Samsung's are top rated by cnet.com and consumer reports...

:director: 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

awesome tv..

go into any big box store and compare the clarity and vibrant color and contrast to a Samsung..

few can measure up..

I shop tv's all the time just for fun..

you can't go wrong w/ 2 grand for a 3 grand tv.

Looking at getting this plasma TV. It is rated very high. Do I need plasma or is LCD fine? Should I get the 4 year warranty for $330?

Blitz,

JMO....go LCD....I could kick myself in the arse with the plasma. Great picture. I have it mounted above my fireplace and the reflection from kitchen door during day is TERRIBLE....can't see $hit on t.v.

if going to be away from windows then I guess it doesn't matter.

Blitz, I agree with lawtchen 100%... light reflections off of plasmas SUCK!!!! I have a 61" DLP in the living room but only got that cuz i couldn't afford an LCD of that size. LCD's are wonderful. got the kids a 50"
walmart special for the basement and their stupid video games ;), and even in the basement they pick up every reflection of light even thru shades.

Got the DLP at best buy and got the warranty with it because it includes one bulb replacement (which pays for the warranty) not sure if i'd recommend getting a warranty with plasma/lcd or not since they don't have bulbs that burn out.

keep this article in mind also http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/10/06/holographic.television/index.html?iref=newssearch

Good points about the 'glare'. The darker the room the better for plasma for sure. Although I have one of mine in a room w/ 3 floor to ceiling windows facing the afternoon sun & havent had any real issues w/ glare myself. The TV is not 7 feet from the windows.

Alot of them now have a 'tinted' glass that acts to cut the glare dramatically.

If you are putting the TV in a very bright & sunny room, then LCD could be a better option for you.
