Bowl Season: 11-3-2

Good morning fellow madjackers....hope you have the day off....hope you have a frig sticked with goodies so you can relax and watch theses games today.....most importantly, hope you win some money today!! :00hour

Here's what I got:

Armed Forces Bowl:

Air Force +4.5 over Cal. So, do you guys remember where you were on September 29? No? Me neither, but I can tell you that was the last time the Cal Golden Bears cashed a winning ticket this season. Lets put that into perspective. The baseball regular season was still going on. Fall was but a week old, now winter is a week old. More than three months have passed since then. Cal isn't just not covering, but their not even winning SU with only one victory in that time, a FG margin victory over woeful Wassau. How in the world does anybody with just one win since September still make a bowl?

Meanwhile, Air Force has been the opposite, having covered every contest since the aforementioned 9/29 date. They've gashed their last three opponents, outrushing them by more than 1000 combined years. They are rolling. While Cal is still trying to figure out why they're here, Air Force is chomping at the bit to top the season by motching a tenth win and taking down a team from the mighty Pac 10 in the process. The Falcons are a solid 24-14 ATS as an away dog since 1997.

Cal has no defense in this game. Their speed will not help them, and Air Force will move all day on them. AF has the second best running attack in the nation, going for 298 a game and are up against a Bear team that yields 151 yard per game and percentage points shy of 4.0 yards per carry. Chad Hall will be the star running and catching out of the backfield. AF is 9-0 when they have a back go over 100 yards and three different guys have eclipsed that mark this season. What I like about this offense is the changes new HC Troy Calhoun brought in. Much more varied than before, we'll see some zone blocking, no huddle and, of course, the bread and butter triple option. AF will pass too as Shaun Carney actually has a higher completion % and yards per attempt than his allegedly more explosive counterpart in this game. Air Force, on offense, will blow the doors off this soft Cal D.

Cal offense will surely do the same against Air Force. This is where their speed and size up front will be an advantage. Yet, Air Force has proved way more plucky in their games that Cal. For example, they allow just 3.3 yards per rush. Their back seven has a lot more talent in it than you would expect out of a service academy with LBs Fowler and Rabold legit pro prospects and CB Carson Bird causing nine takeways. Forcett, Longshore, Jackson will make a ton of plays today, yet Air Force allows less than 20 points a game. Classic bend, but dont break. They excell at takeways with 26 and its easy to see them thwarting a drive or two against a Cal team that has thrown 14 INTs this year and is on the negative side of ledger in turnover margin. Air Force is one of the better teams in that stat, a decided advantage in this game.

Another factor: Look at the game time. Wow, what an early start for a pair of west coast teams. Who do you think that will favor? The imploding, freefall Cal team, or Air Force, a team obviously well schooled with military disciplne. The Fly Boys are more than used to working hard early in the morning and at odd hours. I think this is a huge advantage for AF backers here. With their tricky offense, they'll expose Cal early, who might still be sleep walking. I see Air Force jumping out to an early lead as a result.

DeSean Jackson might jump start Cal with a game changing punt return or something, but Air Force can nullify that with Chad Hall, one of the game's top kick off returners going against a weak kick off return for Cal. Cal's kicker has only hit 3 touchbacks, so he will get his chance and give AF good field position after each Cal score.

And, besides.....its the ARMED FORCES BOWL......we all know what that will mean when it comes to yellow hankies, right?!?!

Kidding on that last one, but I just think this is all about Air Force this afternoon. Its a classic case of one team being beyond stoked to be here with the other one kinda shrugging about their involvement. Considering the stoked team is peaking and the shrugging team is just a disaster, grab the points with the Pilots and enjoy the show.

I'll have more plays throughout the day.....gotta run and get my own 'frig stocked, and then I'll re-post!!

Good Luck!!

Thanks guys, appreciate all the good karma you guys bring....AR, have a great Vegas trip.....i'll be there in March for the first weekend of the tournament....already cant wait!!

We have a pair of 2:00 starts.

Fresno +6 over Georgie Tech......love the Bulldogs in this spot......its another game of dueling motivations.....on one side you have Pat Hill and his Bulldogs, who flat out relish the chance to swap helmet paint with a team from a BCS conference. They're stoked and none too glad to be playing on the Smurf Turf with Boise State not being the opponent. On the other side, you have Georgia Tech, playing amid a coaching change and in a bowl game that the locals back home are labelling as "humilatiating." Thats per a AJC headline, byt the way. Think about it. Its new year's eve, they live in a pre-eminent city in our country, yet they're in Boise. Dollars to doughnuts says half the guys on the team would rather be back home with their girls and buddies going clubbing in the ATL than dealing with visual headache that will be that damn blue field.

Forget visual headache. Try actual headache. Hill's gang wanted to re-establish Fresno this season and get to a bowl. Playing an ACC team in a bowl game might as well be the Rose Bowl. Hill is 5-0 ATS, 4-1 SU as a bowl dog, and his team is 17-6-1 ATS away from as a non-conference dog. Meanwhile, the bumble bees have never been a great favorite, going 10-17-1 in that spot the last five seasons.

Now, Hill has suspended a few guys for this game, but other than a top of the line kick returner, the guys dont contribute much. But, here's a little historical nugget for you: Back in 2002, Hill suspended three starters prior to the bowl game. The line jumped from big time from +3 to +8. Yet, Fresno won the contest outright 30-21. The foe that day: the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Another factor. Tech is amid a coaching change. So far, the four teams this bowl season with an interim at the head have all lost. I am a big fan of Tenuta, and I give him a good shot at eeking out the win. Still, this will cause problems. He's usually up high, but now he'll be on the field.

Look, Tech is not going to roll over. This will be a tight game, and on the most physical contests to be played. But, I'll take those points with one of the best underdog programs in college football.

Good Luck

Went to the store about an hour ago (I live about three miles from Sun Devil Stadium) and saw plenty of IU fans on the street and at the store. Didn't see a single Okie State shirt. Hoping your boys have a crowd advantage.

Adding:

USF/Oregon U53

GT/Fresno U54

In the first game, i just think oregon gets bottled up by the USF D. I'd lay the points with the Bulls, but Pac 10 is historically good as a dog in bowls. If there are no D scores, this will hit.

In the second, I just see a very physical game. Scoring might not break out until late.....like the UCF-MSU bowl game, but with a little more O.....not enough, though, for it go above the total.

Good Luck

Late add-on

Oregon +6....Pac 10 is 16-5 ATS as a bowl dog since 1997, including UCLA this year. Belotti is 4-1 ATS as a bowl dog.

My big play here in 2:00 starts is on Fresno, along with AF.....the others so far have been smaller plays.....so if AF holds on and Fresno covers, i'll be ok.

Just think these two games go Under....and I am riding the Pac 10 dog trend, which has served me well in the past, including several teams in this very same Sun Bowl.

I like the sound of that.....we Hoosiers are pumped for this game. Bowl talk has actually overshadowed the bball team at times....funny thing is I was going go to go any bowl game IU played so long as its not in Az.....its just a trip I couldn't make logistically.....lot of west coast Hooisers I know, though, are there!!!

Thanks for the on-the-spot reporting.....good luck with your plays......and on your Badgers......leaning to them right now, they are always tough in the bowl game, esp as a dog.....whats your feel?

I've seen the Vols play 5-6 times this season, and with the exception of the Georgia game, I have not been impressed. I just can't see them consistently stopping our offense. Obviously I'm biased since it is my alma mater, but I def. like UW to win the game unless Donovan makes 4-5 boneheaded plays, as opposed to his usual 2-3 boneheaded plays.

Trust me... no Indy mojo at all. Just a ton of guys wearing IU red. I bet I saw 40-50 Hoosier shirts either on the street or at the store, and not a single girl!
