DETAILED ANALYSIS OF KEY SELECTIONS
Tampa Bay 20- CAROLINA 6?T.B. has been terrific in the JonGruden era after a loss, rebounding to a 7-0 record (6-1 vs. spread) and outscoring foes 168-42. Bucs geeked the first meeting TY vs. Carolina, with 2 FGs and its key PAT blocked. Expect those ST blocking errors to be corrected this time. Still, T.B. defense held Panthers to 12 pts. in that OT loss and now to only 31 pts. (1 TD) in last 3 meetings! Brad Johnson (2 ints., but 2 TDs & 333 YP last week, not to mention a Super Bowl ring) much more accomplished than counterpart Delhomme.
Minnesota 28 - SAN DIEGO 10?With so many S.D. fans either bummed by their team or distracted by recent fires (there?s a slight chance of venue change in this one), it?s hard to make much of a case for Chargers outside of RB Tomlinson. Young S.D. secondary vulnerable, DL not providing much rush, injured OL not providing much protection, and QB Brees (pulled for Flutie last week) pressing. Vikes, meanwhile, are re- working speed back Bennett into the mix with Moss & Culpepper, and improved defense has 18 ints. in half a season TY. Vikes turn it on after back-to-back losses to NYG & GB.
UNDER THE TOTAL DALLAS 17 - Buffalo 10?Buffalo has been swamped last three road games at Dolphins, Jets & Chiefs, with a total of 14 sacks and 14 more TOs. Could be more of the same for (4-4) Bills vs. quick Dallas defense, especially with sometimes ?walkabout? QB Bledsoe facing his old mentor Parcells. Key WR Moulds has had extra time to nurse his sore groin. And Travis Henry (291 YR last two games) apparently feeling the presence of Willis McGahee. But it?s Dallas (6-2 SU & vs. spread) that?s making the winning plays in 2003.
OKLAHOMA STATE 34 - Texas 26?Prefer host in shootout of talentladen offenses with often-beatable defenses. OSU has covered 8 of last 10 in Stillwater, and hot RB Bell has 699 YR last 4 games. Texas? RS frosh QB V. Young more of a force with his long legs (163 YR vs. Neb.) than thru air (2 ints.). Horns have allowed 15 TDR TY (only 8 LY).
Kent State 30 - OHIO 23?Ohio U.?s loss at lowly Buffalo 2 weeks ago a sign things are in sad shape in Bobcatville. Week off to get healthy will greatly benefit Kent QB Cribbs, and he and his mates will remember last year?s 50-0 humiliation at home against Ohio. Flashes fumbled 5 times and tossed 4 ints. to hand that game to the Bobcats.
Kansas State 42 - IOWA STATE 14?Although K-State not thejuggernaut of some seasons, Iowa State injured & in pointspread dive (1-6 TY; 0-9 last 9 as dog overall). Last 4 losses TY by 46, 31, 21 & 28. With Wildcat sr. QB Roberson (3 TDP, 1 TDR last week), RB Sproles & WR Terry all cooking, ISU can?t match KSU firepower.

DETAILED ANALYSIS OF TOP KEY RATED PLAYS
PITTSBURGH 27 - Virginia Tech 20 - (12:00) -- Two moredefensive TDs for the Hokies in stellar upset of Miami. That pushes host spread edge to 7-0 this yr, the last 3 by 26, 35, & 34? ATS. That being the case, have to call Panthers' number here. Still no rushing "O" for Pitt, but check 223 ypg "D" improvement last 2 weeks. Panthers own series. Until Rutherford to Fitzgerald is contained.
OKLAHOMA 52 - Texas A&M 10 - (3:30) -- What a masterpiece! Okies' double revenge rout of OklaSt featured perfect offensive balance, as well as holding formerly 445 ypg 'Poke "O" to 10 FDs & 161 yds. Chalk is on a 7-0 ATS run in Aggie games, by 30 ppg! Can't stop anyone, & hopeful offense will be crushed but note that the host is on a 5-0 ATS run in Orange games, by an average of 20.4 pts. Averaging 258 RYs & 181 PYs at home. Owls also had LW off, but were stung for 624.5 ypg by Miami & BC, & QB McGann is now ailing (elbow).
Tampa Bay 23 - CAROLINA 6 - (1:00) -- Bucs just can't put 2 wins together. Had 21-10 FD, & 362-257 yd edges vs the Saints, but lost in the last 0:08, thanks to 6 TOs. Can they continue to be a superb play off a win? It can't go on forever, but until things change, we certainly aren't about to look the other way. Panthers finally suffered a road loss, but check Davis with 153 RYs, on the heels of his franchise-record 178 previous week. In their first meeting (12-9 Panther OT win), Bucs had a 25-14 FD edge, but a 171-60 RY deficit. Look for that to change. Carolina lost its last HG, 37-17 (21-pt spread loss), & the Bucs are 20-1 ATS off a SU loss as a chalk. Like we said, it can't go on forever, but until Tampa fails, we ride the Bucs off a loss.
