Quarterback Sack

2009 has ended a little early for both a pair of young gunslingers in Brady Quinn and Trent Edwards. Cleveland put Quinn on injured reserve Tuesday with a foot injury, meaning Derek Anderson (two TDs, nine INTs, 36.2 passer rating) will start Sunday against Oakland. The Browns have covered their last five games in a row with Quinn at the helm; they were 3-3 ATS behind Anderson, winning just the one time at Buffalo (6-3) in Week 5.

As for Edwards, a media source says he?s done for the year after suffering a high ankle sprain last week versus the Patriots. Speculation out of Northern New York has third-string QB Brian Brohm (formerly on Green Bay?s practice squad) will get the start Sunday against Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Buffalo News reports that Bills cornerback Terrence McGee (rotator cuff) is also going on injured reserve. Lines for both these games were off the board at press time pending further developments.

Kick me when I'm down

The annual place-kicker shuffle is well underway. Dallas pulled the chute on Nick Folk after he missed seven of his past 11 kicks. His replacement is Shaun Suisham, a former Cowboy who was cut by Washington earlier this month. Suisham was given a rather early hook by Washington after missing a 23-yarder in Week 13 against the New Orleans Saints, who went on to win 33-30 in overtime. Suisham is still 18-of-21 on field goals this year compared to 18-of-28 for Folk. Consider this an upgrade as the Cowboys prepare to face the aforementioned Redskins on Sunday Night Football. Wouldn't it be funny to see Suisham beat his former team on the road? Very possible folks! Check the NFL lines for the latest on this matchup.

Speaking of the Saints, they finally decided to cut John Carney after a respectable 13-of-17 performance in relief of Garrett Hartley, who started the season with a four-game suspension and didn?t make his debut Week 13. Hartley booted the game-winning field goal against Washington and has made seven of eight, the only miss coming from 58 yards. He should be busy Sunday against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers with coach Sean Payton already saying his starters will play heavy minutes.

Catch you Later!

Both Pittsburgh and Kansas City are a little lighter in the wideout department this week. The Steelers put the invisible Limas Sweed (one catch in 2009) on the IR with a mysterious undisclosed illness, and replaced him with 38-year-old free agent Joey Galloway, who was cut by the New England Patriots this year. Perhaps more importantly, long snapper Greg Warren blew out his right knee on the last play of that dramatic 37-36 win over Green Bay and is done for the season. Jared Retkofsky, last seen playing in the UFL, is Warren?s replacement, as he was during Pittsburgh?s Super Bowl run. The Steelers are staring down elimination this week against the Ravens. Live Betting will be available for this AFC North clash.

The Chiefs made the more puzzling move of waiving wide receiver Mark Bradley (24 catches, two TDs) this week. Bradley started six games for Kansas City and also spent some time on special teams, handling seven kick-offs and a pair of punts. The Chiefs decided they could do without the impending free agent as they get ready for their Sunday afternoon tilt with the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati is 1-4 ATS in the last five games and still mourning the death of WR Chris Henry after he died in what police are calling a domestic dispute. The Bengals are nonetheless still favored by double digits (14).
