The Play: 4 units San Jose(Pk,-120)
A tremendous spot for the visiting Sharks tonight as they catch a slumping Flame squad coming home off a 9 game road trip. The first game back home off a long trip is an absolute kiss of death. Not only that, but Calgary is playing poorly anyway, losing their last 3 straight and only scoring 5 goals in those 3 contests. They are now 10 points back of the 8th and final playoff spot in the West and basically know that their season is over for all intents and purposes. Motivation should be low.
On the flip side, San Jose is battling Los Angeles for top spot in the Pacific Division and with it, the important #3 seed in the West. In fact, they only trail Colorado by 5 points for the #2 seed, and have 2 games in hand, so motivation will be no problem for the Sharks.
Yes, I know they played last night, but they have actually been very good this year when playing B/B , going 6-4-2 ATS.....not bad.
The Sharks have better numbers in almost every important category that I look at.....
Scoring offence....2.93 GF to 2.43
Scoring Defence....2.44 GA to 2.69
Shots For.......27.2 to 26.7
Power Play.......15.3% to 14.5%
Penalty Kill.....86.7% to 80.9%
The only category where Calgary is better is shots against at 26.8 to 28.5.
San Jose has also played very, very well against the Flames lately, going 2-0-1 TY, outscoring them 7-3, and going 3-1-3 in their last 7 against them, outscoring them 20-9.
All in all, San Jose appears to me to be a very solid side tonight and I'll play the Pick,-120 rather than laying the -.5 goal just to protect against the tie.
