YTD: 9-5 (+430)

Milking this beginner's luck thing for all it's worth. Here's what I've got tonight:

WAS +100 (Rangers obviously have been struggling this year for some reason [Sprewell effect crossing over from the Knicks?], but the Caps won the season series last year 3-1 so it's not just this year I'm looking at. Washington has been better on both sides of penalties this year and the goalies are about even. Rangers have only won 1 out of 4 home games this year, so if they're going to be listed as the favorite, I'm going with the dog.)

TB -105 (Tampa has to come back to earth some time, but I don't have a lot of confidence that Columbus is qualified to do the job. TB has the better goalie, the better record, and home ice hasn't meant anything to the Blue Jackets so far [0-2 at home this season]. Lightning strikes for one more night at least.)

LA +0.5 +140 (I could see this game going either way, so I'm happy to take +140 for 2 of the 3 possible outcomes here. Red Wings are the best team in the league at converting penalties, but the Kings are the best in the league at killing them. Goalies are pretty much a toss-up with maybe a slight lean in favor of the Kings so far this season. Like I said, I see this game about even, so getting this line is good enough for me to take a chance on at least a tie.)

That's it for me. Three road teams. Maybe not the best idea, but that's how it worked out. Two home teams I like are Ottawa and Toronto, but I'm too cheap to pay the chalk. I will probably do a little parlay on those 2 games, but I won't worry about it for record purposes. One big favorite I don't like (like last night when I didn't like Montreal) is New Jersey. Atlanta is terrible, but for some reason, I think they have a shot tonight. I'll pass. Good luck everybody.

Tonight: 2-0-1 (+240)

Remarkably, everything went pretty much as I guessed, except for Toronto getting whipped - never would have seen that coming. New Jersey beat the Thrashers, but it was close. Six games into the season and Tampa is still undefeated. Hard to believe, but true. Tampa's tie gives me a push on that one, but taking the +0.5 gives me a win on LA to add to the Caps win (what's going on with the Rangers?), resulting in a nice night. Hope everybody else had a good night. Back tomorrow.
