I can't decide if I hate these people or want to congratulate them on the best scam ever. I get an e-mail this morning telling me I have a message from an old classmate, don't recognize the name since she is apparently married now, but curiosity gets the best of me (as it always does :cursin: ) and I click on it.

Takes you to a page that tells you it's from an old classmate and gives her old name as well, BUT you gotta pay $60 to sign up for their service and have access to it, NICE SCAM FOLKS!

I don't really care about sending them the $60, but it's gotta be on a credit card and it would be kinda tough explaining to my wife why I spent $60 to find some old girlfriend from high school :sadwave:

I spent some time bumping around their site and there is no way around paying them if you want to find this person or have access to that e-mail.

Just kinda a pain in the ass sitting here wondering about it, bastards.

Out of curiosity, what website is it? I get those type of E-Mails once in a while, and while I always got the feeling these reunion/classmate sites were money grubbing, but half an inch from full blown fraud.

It was just called classmates.com I don't think it's a full blown scam because the messages was from someone I went to school with but it's awfully hard not to sign up and see what the message is.

Let me be VERY CLEAR about this. I have no intention of chasing down old girlfriends even if it was free.

I am married, have two great kids and realy don't want to risk that over something like this.

My point was it's hard not to give in to the temptation and curiosity, thus it's a pretty good scam/idea on their part.

penguinfan,

you're right, it sounds like a scam. and you wouldn't want your wife to find out about you checking up on some old flame thru classmates.com. but it does sound interesting. I've got an idea, send me the money and I'll find out who this chick is and what her story is. I'll give you weekly updates and let you know if I need more money, you know, or if anyone else is out there looking for you. let me know.

it's one of their mktg techniques. someone probably wants to get a hold of you. i've been contacted by people i havent seen in 20 years. some i wish i still hadn't seen, but a few friends who i mssed. its worth the small investment if you had some good times.

I have seen that site before. It was a few years ago, same thing but they had some sort of free trial going on and I think I remember surfing around on there. The messages were pretty vague just stuff like, call me or whatever.

These are sites that are helping woman and their children find the men that were responsible for their high school pregnancy and would like said father to make up for lost time and money during the period it took to raise the child.

I was able to cull some e-mail addresses and get back in contact with some old classmates through that site. I never paid a cent. We sent messages as I recall, and if you can connect with a key person, they will many times have e-mails of people still in contact. Old high school buddies, and it happened through that site.
