Talk about getting screwed; in most Power Ratings (not RPI) South Carolina was higher than several of teams who got at-large bids. So S Caro goes into the NIT and doesn't even get a home game to open. To make matters worse, they open against Virginia, a team many thought had a good shot at an NCAA bid.
Here's who I see as the top teams in the NIT:

1. Virginia/South Carolina winner
2. Memphis
3. Butler
4. Dayton
5. Bowling Green
6. Iowa
7. Minnesota
8. La Tech
9. UNLV
10. Villanova

NIT doesnt care about rpi or power ratings. All they care about is getting good matchups for tv and drawing fans to the games. Hence the first round matchup between Virginia and S Carolina, two of the best teams in the tournament.
