Thing that pisses me off about Bush in all this is that he suddenly comes out and says we are facing financial disaster and it's been brewing for 15 years. ....Fine, then why has he spent 7' years bragging of how strong the economy is, record home ownership levels, and telling everyone to keep buying even if it's beyonfd their means? Why did he wait til he was a lame duck to start shootin straight with us?

..............................................................

Thats a easy one to answer.

Bush was hoping beyond hope he would be dumping this on McCain or Obama and he really didnt give two chits which one.

His rating for job performance has to be under 10%

He looked ashen faced . He looked like he was forced to go on TV. By the powers that be.

He did not talk like a President.

Hey Jabber, is this guy skulnik retarded? Republicans voted the bill down, overwhelming majority threw it back in Bush s face.
.............................................................

Where the hell was john McCain ?

He suspended his campaign to push it through and reach across the aisle.

He failed miserably

Why is this bailout considered the right thing to do anyway? I can certainly see the argument against it. Not sure what is the right move here and don't trust anyone who thinks it's such a cut and dry - right/wrong issue.

Smurph, I've been conflicted all day about this. Your post is a damn good summation of how I feel.
I don't know who to trust. Does anyone know who to trust? I certainly don't trust the admin., the Republicans or the Dems. I'd like to believe the Sec. of Treasury but he's a Wall Street lifer. I guess I'd defer to Buffett and Bill Gross.

A part of me is glad this bill went down. Force feeding a massive bill like this in the span of 4 or 5 days doesn't seem the smart thing to do. Deliberative bodies like Congress usually make wrong decisions when forced to make quick decisions.

Do we really need a bill NOW or can this wait a week or so? A talking head on CNBC was saying how some companies may not be able to get a loan to make payroll unless a bill is passed. Maybe I'm naive but if thats how you run your business you are already putting one foot in the hole.

Who ever wins this election is gonna find a whole host of other problems these two crooks created. It is why I sometimes want McCain to win. Let them have some dirt on their hands while Bush laughs all the way to the bank stopping off at the ranch.

Why does everyone have to argue over everything...wtf. Sort of what the dems and repubs do in the house. They are all a bunch of fuking cunts ...can't we all just agree on that alone right now. The country is going to shit and none of our leaders are doing what they are paid to do.

I worked as a Gen Mgr for a National Co. . We kept 3 months of payroll in the bank in a payroll account.

This is just a scare tactic so people will think they will not get paid.

I do not know if it was the right thing either. Like GA Ben points out, I would have to defer to Buffet and others.

I will say that partisan spin when the country saw 1trillion plus removed from the market with a very real possibility of systemic collapse is digusting. Republicans have controlled congress for 12 of the last 14 years and the executive for last 8. To now blame democrats is absurd, but expected.

Look, the Plan was a bad one. There were legit reasons to vote against it. I am at a loss how a Plan went to a vote if they didnt know they had the votes.

The Republicans that voted against it did so on principle. They may be wrong but it at least makes some sense. I dont understand the purpose at all behind all those Democrats voting no....and then blaming the Republicans.

All I can figure is it goes back to last week when the Dems basically said "we can pass whatever we want but wont pass anything unless the majority of Republicans are on board." The media called this bipartisanship when it was really "Cover My Ass Bullshit." The Dems just didnt want to get tagged with screwing the taxpayers and signing off on a stop gap plan that wont work so they played politics and tried to take accountability for passing the plan off the table - kind of like "its W's fault I voted for the war."

Plenty of bblame all the way around. A clear lack of leadership all the way around. A clear lack of strategy all the way around. But good grief- when you have the majority and a bill your Speaker wants doesnt pass it isnt the other parties fault. That's just preposterous.

The Democrats as the MAJORITY party failed, vote these Bums out. TIA. JMHO.

You really don't have a clue.

Handing $700B over to the morons that got us into this is not a good idea. The country needs to learn a lesson.

By the way, don't you feel that this bill is a form of socialism????

Also: I thought that bailing out the homeowners was a bad idea because we shouldn't help out people that make stupid financial decisions....why the hell should we bail out the morons that made those deals? Is it because elitist republicans only want to help the rich.....I'd say this is Exhibit A.

If these people are in there playing these kinds of games they should be horse whipped.

What the fawk do we have them there for ?

To make the best decisions on this bill for all Americans.

To resolve a financial crisis.

Not to play it like a political football. Blaming and posturing.

we have the wrong people in there.

And they are more worried about elections coming up and that they are all suposed to be be on vacation this week.

They have their pensions, big salarys, health care for life. What me worry ?

Al, I completely agree, on this particular issue Bush isn't completely to blame. The angle of my point in the thread, is that Bush has now lost everyone, his party didn't want him at the convention, many basically told him to shove this plan. People like McClellan coming out books writing about him. I have made no secret for years on here I have disagreed with virtually everything Bush has done. Several defended him, my point is now, nobody but maybe his wife is standing with him.
