Kind of sad to see the name change to U.S. Cellular Field. Growing up on the south side, I will miss the name Comiskey Park that was such a tradition. They claim all of the 68 million they are getting (for 20 years of naming rights) will go directly to stadium renovations. We shall see. I wonder if Wrigley Field will be next?

They will never change the name of Wrigley. They will build a new park before that happens.

The US Cellular thing was news here but nobody seemed real broken up over it. One columnist suggested calling the new park the "Cell block".

I'm guessing you used to live here because I didn't think their signal reached as far away as Wichita.

Actually, it was a newspaper columnist (Mike Imrem).

It is sad that the name Comiskey Park will no longer be around. Oh the good ole days when you walked into the old park and smelled stale beer and sit down and there was a pole in front of ya....LOL. "Disco Night" oh those where the days. LOL. Hey maybe with all this money jerry has now he can find a way so folks dont have to go threw the hood in order to get to his park. LOL.

Question for some of you people living in the Chicago area. It has been a lot of years since I lived there, but I am still a die-hard Chicago fan of all their sports teams. Just wondering why the fans there don't embrace the White Sox more than they do? The Cubs have a huge following, even though the Sox have had a better record over the last few years. Is it the fact that the Cubs have been televised on WGN nationally for so many years? Is it the fact that they play mostly day games as opposed to mostly night games for the Sox? Is it the area of town Comiskey Park is in (oops, I mean U.S. Cellular Field)? Sorry, it's going to take some time getting used to the new name. Do you think the fans will support them this year? They have put together, in my opinion, a very good team that has a very good chance of winning their division. It just seems to me that people don't really care much about the Sox or their long tradition. Just an opinion from a lifelong Sox fan. Would like to hear other opinions.

Big Daddy: yes, yes and yes

WGN has reached a national audience for many years now while the White Sox were on a UHF channel for years, then pay per view in the pre-Sportschannel, pre-Foxsportsnet days. As for the areas around the parks, there's just many more restaurants and bars in the Wrigleyville area than in Bridgeport. The only people that go to Sox Park/US Cellular are the hard core fans. At Wrigley, you get a lot of people who are there to party; not necessarily watch the game.

My parents are from your neck of the woods (Amery). When I was a kid we'd go up there twice a year.

The other problem is the location of the park itself. It is not in the nicest area of town. LOL. Lets just say it is no Barrington... Also when the built that park the upper deck is literally nose bleed section. You really feel like you are going to fall out of your seat. Lets hope that this move will improve that park and not Jerry's pocket.

Although I haven't had a chance to see a game in the new stadium since I moved up north, I have also heard horror stories about that upper deck. Sounds like the architect did a poor job designing it. You would think they would have known that people wouldn't like it. Like you say, hopefully all the money goes to stadium improvements, even though I can't understand why a stadium only 10 years old would need that much work, unless they did a poor job to begin with. They can add a coat of paint, add a few more luxories, a few more "fan friendly" toys, etc., but there's not much they can really do to fix that upper deck that people don't want to sit in.
