Dear Fellow Cappers:

Sorry I could not get out my plays in the daily report, last night. What follows are my plays for today, June 1, 2001:

All plays for 1 unit....

MILW -110 vs. CHI
Comments: Wood pitched a terrific game last Friday night, but faces a more consistent pitcher here (better ERA, fewer baserunners allowed). Milwaukee should also be eager to face Wood in this re-match. Brewers dominated 3 of the last 4 games in STL (outscoring Cards 24-3) and should have the edge at home. Wood has never demonstrated an ability to put together strong back-to-back games. The price is right at "pick 'em" to take the Brewers with under-rated Haynes as the starter.

CLEVE / NYY OVER 9.5 (-120)
Comments: Hernandez (0-5) brings an ERA over 5 into the game against one of baseball's best hitting teams. He's also burdened with an injury to his toe, and will still get the start -- despite being pummeled for 6 runs last time he faced the Indians. Meanwhile, Cleveland starts Sabathi who is allowing 20+ baserunners on average per 9 IP in his last three appearances, despite being 5-2. He has not pitched well in the last month and surrenders close to 6 runs per game in road starts this season. All five of Sabathi's road starts have gone OVER this year.

MINN / TEX OVER 11 (-120)
Comments: Anytime you can get the Rangers at 11 or less, the OVER appears to have value. Texas is still at the top of the AL in hitting, while ranked dead last in pitching. Glynn brings an ERA over 6 to the game, against Santana for the Twins who has seen limited action (9 IP -- 15 baseruunners allowed per 9 IP). Rangers bullpen is at the breaking point, which means if Glynn gets knocked from the game, Texas could give up double-digits (which is always the case). Twins have been in a minor slump lately. Expect them to come to life in this series against the AL's worst pitching staff. At the same time, Ranger's hitters are always capable of scoring lots of runs. Low run total, two bad pitchers points to an OVER.

Nolan, I really like the Cle/NYY over selection. Sabathia as you mention has really struggled lately. Last 3 starts only covering 14 IP...14 ER 10 BB and 22 Hits allowed. Also, the kid is only 20 and the environment should be quite a contrast to his previous road starts...Ana, Tex, KC, Bal, and Det. I think Yanks patient hitters will make Sabathia's pitch count pile up and should get to the bullpen around the 4th or 5th inning. Also, as you mentioned, Hernandez has a bad foot and the paper made it sound like he is only starting tonite because he feels the mound at yanks stadium is a little more comfortable than those on the road. We should see plenty of runs tonite. Good luck
